First real world camera samples from the Apple iPhone 4S

0. phoneArena posted on 20 Oct 2011, 00:28

Rather than taking shots in brightly lit or sunny conditions, we ended up taking them mostly in the evening to show its prowess in capturing photos in less light. Considering that it features a larger aperture (f2.4) and backside illumination, things should appear...

Please don't plague this site with all that "first" bulls**t. The last thing we need are adults living in their mom's basement.

Grow up. this isn't a race. . .

16. ivanprskalo posted on 20 Oct 2011, 10:41 1

Who cares that you are first, you are not even real user, your profile is empty, have no picture, who are you anyway?

btw. If SGS II is better, than what to say on SE xperia arc...

To me, pictures look decent, but the one taken with SE arc are still far better. SGS II? I think 4S matches now samsung..

21. 530gemini posted on 20 Oct 2011, 13:28 1 1

@jacko. How can you say that sgs2 is better? Was there an official camera comparison between the two phones on here? Your comment is baseless. Typical android fanboy.

31. Dark4o90 posted on 20 Oct 2011, 15:38 1

it is not about android it is about the pictures and they look awful in comparison with the pictures posted last week and yes samsungs pictures are better you don't need comp. between them just download pictures taken with S2 and see

36. 530gemini posted on 20 Oct 2011, 18:23 1

@dark. Of course according to you, sgs2 produces better pictures. But according to a lot of early reviews of the ip4s (not my personal opinion), the ip4s easily tops the rest. Read Engadget's review for instance.

Nokia N8 is the beast! without 1080p. :) watch some of these.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o4Ijr7A0T1U&feature=related and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9m9W9ysLgf8.

Great video quality and has a lot of details and Perfect for taking pictures. :)

4. Medel posted on 20 Oct 2011, 01:41 3

and one more thing it has a better sound quality.

22. 530gemini posted on 20 Oct 2011, 13:31 1

@medel. Nah. I saw the video and photo comparison between the ip4s and the n8, and the ip4s takes better photos and videos. Although I hope to see a more rigid comparison soon. Also, the ip4s seems to handle shakes much better than any phone out there. Not to mention that its response time is much faster than the rest.

I found some real good Nokia N8 videos:http://www.youtube.com/user/topolino70#p/u/3/JkBC21BkGIY and this one, the guy used an extra macro lense:http://www.youtube.com/user/topolino70#p/u/3/JkBC21BkGIY

and i almost forgot to say. the Nokia N8 have a stabilization. ok, here you go.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MrpzorTHHn0

30. Rockimaru posted on 20 Oct 2011, 15:21 1

i agree. the N8 takes the best photos i've seen on a phone. but for videos, you just need the proper skills and equipment to get the best out of the phone. i've seen some NOKIA production videos and they are great. but i found a guy on youtube, his N8 videos are awesome. here is the guys youtube channel:http://www.youtube.com/user/topolino70 you shoudl really check it out if you are a Nokia N8 fan

3. yann posted on 20 Oct 2011, 01:37 11 1

Those pictures are not so good IMO. Something wrong with the focus...
Not bad at all.
Still, my N8 make a lot better pics.

23. 530gemini posted on 20 Oct 2011, 13:33 2

@yann. You're just an n8 blind fan. The ip4s shows better results so far when compared to the n8 on engadget's review. There will be other reviews soon, so let's wait and see if the ip4s can prove itself to have the best camera on a phone.

32. Dark4o90 posted on 20 Oct 2011, 15:40

hahaha n8 fan hahahahaha it looks like you are isheep fan

37. 530gemini posted on 20 Oct 2011, 18:26

@dark. And how am I an isheep. Read my comment again please. I said WAIT FOR MORE REVIEWS before making any judgement. Your IQ is humiliating.

39. maxican16 posted on 20 Oct 2011, 18:32 1

gemini calling someone else a blind fanboy. hahaha... oh that's rich. POT meet KETTLE.

6. djmuzi posted on 20 Oct 2011, 02:51 1 1

You mean first iPhone 4S photos from YOUR iPhone 4S ;) I have shot real world photos a few days ago :) Your photos are sharper than mine. But I agree the SGS II has better camera. The good old N86 has a much better camera too. The N8 is still a class of its own.
The press photos from Apple (you posted them too) were too good to be true as expected :(

7. XiphiasGladius posted on 20 Oct 2011, 03:13 1 1

the N8 needs not to be compared to the likes of the iPhone 4s because if you were able to try it and viewed its official. flickr accnt. its on a very different level from my point of view. The iPhone 4s has a Very good 8mp.

15. yann posted on 20 Oct 2011, 09:36 1

You're a iSheep, really!
You believe what Apple told to you.
You never even try N8.
When you talk about camera - till now even with 4S, Nokia N8 is still the best on the market.

17. SweetLou posted on 20 Oct 2011, 11:18

lol wut?

24. 530gemini posted on 20 Oct 2011, 13:35 1

@yann. Anyone who prefers the iphone is an isheep for you. I saw Engadget's review, and the n8 is the clear loser :)

45. Windsponge posted on 24 Oct 2011, 19:50

I wonder if Engadget gets Paid any money from Apple?

33. Dark4o90 posted on 20 Oct 2011, 15:43

S2 makes really good pictures too and N8 because of its big sensor but for now SE Xmore is the best that's the truth

38. 530gemini posted on 20 Oct 2011, 18:27

@dark. The only truth that you have proven on here is that you are an iphone hater :)

9. chunk1x posted on 20 Oct 2011, 04:10

Engadget is an asshole for rigging the test.

25. 530gemini posted on 20 Oct 2011, 13:37 1

@chunk. What did you think of engadget when they were all praises for the n8? But now that the ip4s does seem to produce better results, they're now assholes?

10. chunk1x posted on 20 Oct 2011, 04:24

The 4s photos are impressive. This proves that you don't need to fake and ruin the N8 for impressing us with 4s photo. 4s is almost or the same quality with Samsung S2. N8 is still better but damn, 4s as all grown up with good amount of depth a more realistic colors. P.S. Engadget is the worst asshole and sabotaging N8 photos is the lowest thing I've ever seen and their excuse infuriates me that I will throw feces at their staff.

26. 530gemini posted on 20 Oct 2011, 13:48

@chunk. You just don't like it that the ip4s produces better results than your n8.

41. chunk1x posted on 20 Oct 2011, 20:40

Hey dumb ass. N8 was never ever blurry as shown in Engadget. You never have seen the true quality of N8. It was never about 12mp or fan support, it just has all the right elements for good photography. I praise 4gs for the improved photo performance remember. I own a N8 but I am well aware of its photo weakness and never did I sugar coat it like you. I love the performance of s2 and 4gs but I am also aware of its performance. You fanboys( Apple, Nokia, Android and etc) wrap the truth and believe that your units are invincible and lie to the teeth and even fake the test like Engadget did. I speak the truth like a true camera phone enthusiast. I am a big fan of true camera oriented phones from K800, N82, Satio, Pixion 12 and to today's photo monster the N8. I am beyond brands and OS and my only requirement is the best overall photo performance. For the record I give all my respect to S2 for the best video. Stop being a idiot and face the truth. Only those who haven't seen both(4gs and N8) will pretend that their's is better without understanding why.

11. nastynaps posted on 20 Oct 2011, 04:54 1 1

Seeing how everyone is comparing the photos to the supposedly best camera phone out there, the N8 (never seen it myself), it seems to me this shooter is in good company. Those pictures are pretty damn impressive, probably the best I've seen from a camera phone. Looks like it beats the SGS2 to me; give credit where credit's due. Can't wait til they have us vote on all the new phones.

12. jacko (unregistered) posted on 20 Oct 2011, 05:20 1 2

HELL NO the SGS II s**ts all over this all the pics are blurry

13. jackhammeR posted on 20 Oct 2011, 05:38

Well...N8 is like unwanted black sheep in family.
Most don't care and try to forget it even exist. Truth is, that beside of that "weak" ARM processor and outdated hardware, N8 is still the best cameraphone around. Even dual cores allmighty S II cannot be a real threat. That's why I'm curious, why in every single comparison, there is no N8. Is it too good, and it's so obvious for everyone, or sites like this one or crappy engadget, trying to erase N8 from mobile phone map? because it's running Symbian, which is "dead" for sheeps?
It will change when Nokiasoft presents ancestor of N8, running Mano 7.5.
Android never been a good partner for photos.

14. aztaxia12295 posted on 20 Oct 2011, 07:26

Couldn't get a pic of occupy wall street?

18. SweetLou posted on 20 Oct 2011, 11:46

eh, just like people said about the recent photos taken with the nexus, its mostly the person behind the camera.

19. taco50 (banned) posted on 20 Oct 2011, 12:24 1 1

As usual people try to discredit Apple. The pictures look great.

20. 530gemini posted on 20 Oct 2011, 13:17

They do look great. But no matter how great they look, antagonists will of course try their best to discredit it. Just look at Andy Rubin discrediting Siri now. But see what happens in the future when everyone implements their own Siri-like assistant. They'll all pretend that they never said anything against it.

46. Windsponge posted on 24 Oct 2011, 19:53

They are blurry do you need glasses?

27. jdrevolution posted on 20 Oct 2011, 14:15

The pictures are nice but they look grainy. I dont know if it's cause of the uploading to a website (as in, if these are the pictures actual sizes) but you can see the grain, especially in the sky of the first picture.
They also seem a little unfocused, the picture with the chairs, I think the lines could be a little sharper but still looks a little fuzzy. And I think the picture of the plant combines the grain and the fuzz the most out of all the pictures.
I think for facebook or something similar they'd be great photos, but I don't expect to start seeing this camera used by proffessionals anytime soon haha :D (though, I have seen amazing work done by proffessionals with just a disposable camera. So who knows?)

28. 530gemini posted on 20 Oct 2011, 14:58

These photos are taken in low light conditions. Don't expect bright photos from low lighting. Don't expect blue skies on photos taken at night time.

34. jdrevolution posted on 20 Oct 2011, 16:30

I didn't expect to, but I have seen clearer picture when taken at night. I know low light doesnt ever help picture quality, but some of these are a smidge past just the low light effecting it. :)
Like I mentioned, they're still nice photos, great for what most people will be using the iphone camera for: social media, picture messaging and sending the latest cute thing their cat/child did to their friends/relative haha
I was just kind of hoping for clearer images considering how much they talked about the camera and the effort they put into it,.

40. 530gemini posted on 20 Oct 2011, 18:35

@jd. You've seen clearer picture of this exact scene taken at the same time with the ip4s? Where? I thought this is solely ip4s pictures. I didn't know there are clearer ones taken by other camera phones at the same time as this :)

Yes, these are nice photos nevertheless, considering that flash was not even used. Especially that last photo of the plant where they took the shot in front of those bright lights. Now, if only they used those other phones that you're talking about for a side by side comparison, then I might just believe you that there are other camera phones better than this.

42. jdrevolution posted on 21 Oct 2011, 12:45

Haha I didnt mean a picture of the same exact same scene or with the same phone. But you're right that this is an article just showing the IP4S picture quality
But actual comparison between phones would be even better. :)
