*Bangs head on table!* Wha???? Its like motos not even trying. That red dpad destroys the real estate destined for the keyboard.

Not even trying? Are you serious? 3.7 inch capacitative touch screen with full qwerty slider and an android OS, and a 5mp autofocus camera to top it all off? How is that not even trying? That red d-pad is nowhere near as annoying as the bulging chin on the G1 when I used it. The keypad layout is similar to the n97, but this has four rows instead of 3 and the d-pad is on the opposite side...I think this is going to be an awesome handset and something to get motorola out of the rut that they've been in. To release such an uncompromisingly awesome phone in the US is a great idea! Hopefuly VZW markets this thing appropriately!

I agree except for the keyboard part, watch this be internet only like the original diamond.

Actually, if you look to the right of the d-pad, there is a small protrusion, but doesn't stick out as much as the G1 or Hero and the screen slides over it.

Well you can count on that, but I agree with him in a way, the D-pad seems a little pointless (atleast for me) I would rather have a full scale larger keyboard with maybe an "opticle key" in the center for navigation purposes, Kinda like to old toshiba satelite notebooks with the little "Eraser Head" for the mouse and make it opticle. I love the size of the screen, Im hoping physicle screen size is 3.7 and note the phone size...I know phonearena loves to MUCK up the stats with over compinsation. And I agree with "Path" The G1 was the largest pile of crap looking pone ever, they should have called it the JayLeno1 for its chin size. That was so unconfertable to text on and just looked unapealing. Overal I rate this handset on looks and Hypetheticle functionality a 9. Looking forward to it.

They put a "check spellling" button just below the area for adding comments for a reason. There is no such word as "opticle" and had you used the spell check you would have found that out.

this is the type of form factor apple should use for the iphone, if they ever add a physical qwerty keyboard...

Seeing how this is Vzw's only Android offering, I guess it's not bad, but dam, I don't care how big the screen is [which isn't even that big], it doesn't look as elegant as the renderings, and I dunno..it looks nasty. I thought it was going to have a flushed screen, but I guess not. I wonder what the UI will be like....

hahaha and for all you haters of the chin....there is a small on on the bottom lol

God I hope they change the name of this thing... How ridiculous is everyone going to feel saying, "Yeah, I just hit up Big Red, but me this sweet new Sh-Shu-Shul-Sholes? phone, yeah, the name's stupid, but it's the greatest phone ever."

There's also an additional hardware button on the front, compared to the rendering. It looks like a search button.

I think the name is Moto's internal codename especially since it has not been released...try looking up the surname "sholes" on Wikipedia! Also remember that the new Moto phone "Morrison" which also had a much maligned name, has now passed through the FCC and is actually called the "CLIQ". Also as someone else pointed out this is an early prototype and so the colors and style are not fixed. I think that the D-Pad would be great for business users, you could use it like arrow keys. If you were editing a document and you wanted to go navigate around it, especially if it was in small print on the screen, you would not want to use your big finger to move the cursor; if you were editing a spreadsheet you could do big damage with your fingers. The morrison, or I should say CLIQ, D-pad on the left is probably aimed at a different audience, for game playing, like many games devices that have it on the left.

I just have a feeling we are going to see a lot of manufacturer defects with this device. Hopefully this will clear their name and make people forget about the Krave. Big step forward for them with the android OS and using VZW.
