How exactly do you figure that? Because the colors are so bright? That's called over-saturation and it's not a good thing unless you like your photos to be fake.

It seems the N8 shots better overall. The iPhone pictures look ok, but are blurry, not as sharp and too much red in all the images. Whereas the N8 images are sharper, true to color and very comparable to the compact camera. If the camera captions weren't under the pictures, the N8 and compact camera images would be hard to tell apart. Impressive.

And you are in the "real world" with a comment like that? You Nokia haters are downright pathetic.

I would love to see the examples of the N8 with the vivid mode on. I do like the warmth of the Iphone photos, but they are not as clean as the N8's. Doitall76

N8's approach is much better. Nokia learned from the N95 which had this "warmth" added to bright colors to make them look unreal. N8 does a very good job of capturing REAL stills. I think it's time for an N8 vs. Pixon 12 vs. Satio showdown.

I believe the referenced article on Engadget made some serious alterations to the web posted pics. If you take the time to download the raw zip files, you may very well see how the individual who wrote this article is not familiar with cameras or has a deceitful agenda. IMO, this was extremely unfair and unfortunate. The Nokia closeups were clearly out of focus...BECAUSE the operator failed to put it in MACRO mode!!!! The pics were always in partial zoom with Nokia, since the camera has a 28mm WIDE ANGLE lens. Of course, this magnifies motion AND defects. A most unfair and unprofessional job, IMO. To waste further time discussing the merits of the pics is sad.

yep, they cropped the shit out of the N8 pics, but still detail is bland for a 12MP shooter if you look at the originals

yeah, good catch, nokia seems made for low light situations, while iphone's pics are overexposed and oversaturated out of the box, I wish they shot with the HDR mode, makes iphone's pics more subtle. but there will be plenty more pics from both this weekend when everybody got an N8

DontHateOnS60 makes a good point !! - "I think it's time for an N8 vs. Pixon 12 vs. Satio showdown" Luistoluca typifies the average jump-on-the-bandwagon overnight manufacturer fanatic ! The iPhone's pics are excellent.... for viewing on the amazing screen it has. But for those who actually know something about photography, and will take them further (bigger screen or prints) it seems the N8 would do a much better job in capable hands ! Not to mention not being quality limited in poorly lit situations. Start with the basic, and adjust to your taste rather than having features preset to their best apparent ability. Ok so I am an Apple fan, but for the real reason that an Apple fan is exactly that... being a MAC USER ! Not a trend hound who thinks the iPhone is the best thing since the invention of the wheel simply because it has 'cool factor'. If having a good signal or worldwide support and practical phone use is not your priority, then for sure glorify the iPhone. Every one has their own interest in what they want a phone for, and I think the N8 will do well despite all the highly biased and unfair reports it is receiving before it is even properly available ! I think it can be said that with so much emotion being shown for a product launch, Nokia has already succeeded at something... generating the sort of interest usually only achieved by Steve Jobs himself !! That speaks volumes !
