Since the French carriers offer unlimited data plans, the users are suspecting that unannounced restrictions on download speed have been in place. One of the largest carriers in France – Orange – has even been asked to reveal the average download speeds in its advertising, rather than quote only the peak numbers.
The French complaining is like fireworks on the 4th of July. It happens every time, and now the rage goes towards their cell phone 3G speeds. A whopping 41% revealed in a survey that they are most often getting only EDGE, or even GPRS signal. Furthermore, where 3G coverage is present, the speeds are pathetic, and making them reluctant to even use social networking on the go. More than a half of the people surveyed report their 3G speeds are better suited for mobile site versions and dedicated apps rather than the full-blown experience, so that's what they've been using mostly.
