Facebook said to be building a mobile app that allows us to track our friends
0. phoneArena posted on 04 Feb 2013, 21:56
Facebook is once again working on a mobile app that would allow users to track the whereabouts of their friends and would run in the background; last year Facebook was working on Find Friends Nearby which briefly was up and running before it was stopped due toi fears that it would be used by stalkers on their prey...

Yeah I recently noticed that, and I just shut down my facebook account temp, but it may turn permanent.

If I can't shut down others tracking me, then good-bye FB (again).

I think many will continue using Facebook just like before :) Most users won't even hear about this update or will find out about it much later...

I think this will become a major news story after someone uses it to commit some seriously heinous crime.

I already quit Facebook, but this is still a bad trip... so, either people had better be removing all of the "friended" folks that they don't actually know in real life, or they had best get out before they get stalked into oblivion. Heck, I think I may know some people who will go along with this just because they WANT stalkers... sick, sick, sick!
I've been gone from FB for almost a whole year now, and I'm never going back if it's going to be this way.

I used this app during the one week it was available. I was very excited for its potential. It seemed like a perfect tool for maintaining IRL (in real life) relationships. Then it disappeared. If you can select which friends you want to see your location, and easily turn that feature on and off for each person (default being off of course), this would be a huge benefit . Not only for the convenience of finding your friends in crowds like fairs, amusement parks, concerts and sports events, but facilitating actual face-to-face contact in a screen-to-screen world.

I don't know why I never over-reacted or got scared for such apps or updates or news. Maybe it is because I don't do crazy things that I feel fear by getting stalked by strangers? Or maybe it is because I have a little sense of putting what I publish for the world to see?

Even still it's ridiculous regardless sometimes I follow these type of stories because of what I feel like this is about to start leading up too. People will always tell ya sometimes "Big Bother is watching." I'm starting to believe that.

i agree. there have been rumors for awhile now that the government uses FB to create profiles of people since it seems everyone is on FB and most everyone puts their business on there (like location, what you are doing that day, drama in your life, etc). when i see things like this app being made it just makes me think it can be used by the government, furthering my suspicion of FB.

Never heard bout this, but then again wouldn't put it too far past them. I still blame this one on us(the people) though like this guy below me said or 18th post we need to get a life lol. Plus we don't stand up for what we want anymore like the old days(before my time lol).

This is so funny, and then people in the US are always so concerned about their "privacy" and "ID's". Happy since I deleted my Facebook account a little bit over two weeks ago,I really needed to get a life.
