FaceTime video chat over cellular connection won't be possible on the iPhone 4 or iPad 2

0. phoneArena 13 Jun 2012, 03:48 posted on

When Apple announced iOS 6 the other day, it turned out that a bunch of the new features won't work or will be neutered on older iGizmos. It is fair enough that the complex 3D mapping feature Flyover won't work as it should on the single-core A4 chipset of the iPhone 4, and that Siri-guided navigation will only be present on the iPhone 4S and the new iPad, which actually are the only ones to run Siri, but how about FaceTime over 3/4G?...

WTF?!?
this is fragmentation, so technically, iPhone 4 is still running iOS 5, because, no Siri, no facetime over 3G, no flyover... at least all of Android's features work on every device.

Well, it's kinda simple. These earlier devices aren't optimized to SMOOTHLY run these applications. Yes, Google can push every feature of their OS on a phone, but there's no garauntee that it's optimized to run it. Apple believes in QUALITY programs that run smoothly with no slow down, whereas Google believes more in QUANTITY.

Wrong Nikonmorous! Google lets you run everything on all their devices regardless of how well it runs because its up to us, the users who should decide whether it runs smoothly enough or not for ourselves. Google never forces you to use those apps if you choose not to. If it doesn't run smoothly enough for you, fine! just uninstall the app. I am sure you are smart enough to know that.
Apple alternatively, plays nanny and decides for you, sort of telling you they know whats best for you and that is bulls**t because do they know you? They give you no choice whether you like it or not. They think you are not smart enough to decide for yourself. This works fine for children old folks who don't know better.
My Android single core 1ghz 512mb runs Skype video calling fine, performance dependent on network signel and not hardware specs. The iPhone 4 and iPad 2 uses single and dual core 1ghz 512mb and Apple bars them from Facetime 3G/4G video calling whereas Skype runs fine.
Tell me Nikonmorous, is Facetime such a badly written app that will cause performance issues on older devices that has no problems running Skype OR is Apple's hardware not up to the job?
How old are you btw?If you are below 10 or above 70, then its no surprise you prefer nanny Apple .
Whichever way you see it Apple=epic fail

That's bulls**t
It can be done via jailbreak
Nothing wrong with that
I can video call with Skype
Looks like apple is going downhill

lol, WTF? So basically, every iDevice but the 4S and the new iPad are only getting an upgrade in name and a new bloatware called Passbook?

What's next? Passbook doesn't run on older iDevices too? Facebook integration only works on A5 chips?

Haha, I'll like to see Taco & Galito backpadel out of this.

This is just plain ridiculous, Apple obviously just want to make more money from the sale of the new iPad and the iPhone 4S. There's absolutely no reason for the iPhone 4 not to run FaceTime on 3G.

I am not sure if it is fragmentation as it is features. It is the same OS image, it just turns things on and off depending on the model it is running on.

Much like windows ... same CD install for example regardless of the PC... but depending on your sound card or video card, the OS will turn things off or on.

Android ... the code is different and has different front end GUI's depending on the manufacturer for example. Some manufacturers have this ... or that. I see this as fragmentation.

I will probably get flamed galore with this.

To me....what Nokia and/or MS did with the Nokia phone and the 256MB ram, this, Android...

Its either some form of fragemtation for all 3 mobile OS's...or no one has fragmentation.

You shouldnt get flamed for your post. Its one of the few civil and intelligent posts on here.

I don't know why all you people are trolling? It is dumb that the iPad 2 can't have the same feature as the 4S when they both have the same A5 chips and the iPad2 is clock at 1 GHz. And btw Google and android OEM does this too. Nexus One not get ICS when a rooted Desire has working ICS.
