One of the more elusive phones to be released by Verizon later this year is the LG VX8575, known as the Chocolate Touch. We first heard rumors this summer that Verizon was going to get a CDMA variant of the BL40, and then shortly after the VX8575 passed the FCC. Then a few weeks ago the first images of the Chocolate Touch appeared, and it was apparent that it was not a BL40 cousin. In fact, our source within Verizon told us that there was two prototype models of the VX8575. One of them closely resembled the BL40, but "focus groups" didn't care for that style of phone, so it was scrapped and the "other" VX8575 is what will be released. This upset quite a few people, as the BL40 is the must-have LG device and we were looking forward to it coming to Verizon. But alas, the Chocolate Touch looks more like a "LG Dare 2" with a 3.2MP camera, 3.5mm headset jack, HTML browser, multitasking music player, and WVGA TFT display. The menu themes have been updated with more of a "music look" and there is even a direct link to Microsoft's Bing search page.

Thanks to a friend for the pics and info!

how is that better than the BL40? it looks like a toy.

The majority rules is what happened. Most people liked the look of the phone but felt it was to long. Which I do agree on for functional purposes, so they changed the entire look of the phone, what they should have did was just make it a bit shorter and left it alone. Now it's just a restyled Dare 2. It's just another example of the HTC Hero UK version vs. Sprint.

I respect your opinion as a consumer, but I also respectively disagree...the design is great, far more advanced, and very futureistic looking. I would probably say this is more like a Dare 2 more than a Chocolate 4 though, if its tru what they say about pricing and new releases we have "weened out" the Cocolate phone completely, and the Dare phone just dropped in price. I know its un official but I wouldnt be suprised if this was a sequal to the Dare, repectivley.

I agree that the whole look should NOT have been scrapped. Even though the original Chocolate Touch was a little long, it was still unique (unlike this new one). They shoulda just made it a little shorter cus now it's plain ugly and looks like the Dare1.5, which is not a compliment.

It looks alright, but is it really an improvement over the Dare? The reason I got the Dare when it came out was because it had a slew of new and improved features. If the only improvement is a higher resolution screen, then it's not worth getting for me. Maybe if they also bumped up the camera to a 5.0 megapixel, added wi-fi, document viewer for .doc, .xls, .pdf, etc... Otherwise, looks like i'll be waiting for the Storm 2...

wow looks like a really cool phone. i hope it dosnt requier an extra $10 like the Rogue im keeping my fingers cross for this phone! :) so i guess im going to wait for this phone i was thinkng of geting the Versa or the Rogue next week. i also hope it hase different home screens like the Versa

9. kvenderley posted on 21 Sep 2009, 09:09

It will, for any high level "dumb phone" ei the rogue, this and others that come with html browser and email feature will require you to get a connect plan or some sort of MB package.

18. PapaJay224 posted on 21 Sep 2009, 12:30

It will most likely require then plan. BNG what do you plan to use it for if NOT for Data related material?

26. crd22 posted on 21 Sep 2009, 15:07

It's not strange that people want a phone to make calls and sends text messages. Regardless of how "advanced" phones are, many people don't want or are not able to pay an extra $15-$30 a month for data that they never use.

29. bng posted on 21 Sep 2009, 18:40

I only plan on using this phone for call and text. i don't need to use the internet i rather yous it on my lap top which is much fast than a phones browser. but any way if you look it has the Bing search so it probably will require an extra date plane because the Rogue had a my space widget and it turned out to need an extra date plane for that phone.

wow, what an ugly phone. theyve murdered some phones in the past, but going on looks alone right now this one takes the cake. doesnt look like any elements of the bl40 made its way into this. again, vzw customers cant have nice things...

10. kvenderley posted on 21 Sep 2009, 09:13

the BL40 is WAY TO SKINNY!!! like i like the 4 inches wide part of it and the thinness of the phone, but you cant do anything in portrait mode with that phone. This phone is more stylish and the screen is wider so you can do more with it in portrait mode. true, it might not be 4 inches wide in landscape mode, but i just hope its bigger than 3.2 inches. as long as this phone is thin still, im getting this or the rogue for sure. VERIZON, RELEASE IT ALREADY!!!

13. tanders04 posted on 21 Sep 2009, 11:24

Ugh... Much like wide screen movies people continue to confuse "skinny" with wide. The phone is no "skinnier" width wise than most current phones. The difference is marginal. .1 in "skinnier" than the G1. What the phone is (again like movies) is wider which give you more room. LG put out a great and truly innovative phone with the BL40 then VZW users get shit on with this POS because some "focus group" thinks it looks better.

19. PapaJay224 posted on 21 Sep 2009, 12:36

Mr. Anderson you are probably mentally challenged if you really think this phone is ugly..What phone do you have? What would you like to see? Is it because Phone Arena set the wrong expectation with their "so called BL leak". PA posted CRAP information about this phone fromthe beginning the Model Number they've been using isnt even assosiated with Verizons LG model numbers "BL40?" VZW has always used "VX" never "BL"...that should have been your first clue...so dont bash Verizon, this phone is Hot and will sell, maybe not to a poor schmuck like you though...take it upo with LG and PA then go buy a razr!

aww kvenderley you gave up on the omnia II? i think i will to for the imagio, but i am going to wait till both come out to compare the two

33. mr. anderson posted on 21 Sep 2009, 23:13

ive got the pre and hero. i dont care what the name is, this phone is an abortion of design. beyond the abysmal styling, that menu is so bland and boring. it appears this will be another touch phone from vzw that makes little to no use of the touchscreen, but by golly they can market it as "touchscreen!"

5. kjack628 posted on 21 Sep 2009, 08:07

Where's the omnia II pics? that phone been out way longer and you guys can't get a pic of it. You can get any other phone's pic but not the o2...I want to see some pics of it with the vzw logo!!

7. panacea224 posted on 21 Sep 2009, 08:21

This was preferred over the BL40 in focus groups? What's with the hard keys? They look like a 2yr old's attempt to draw rectangles. I just hope they kept the capacitive display and 5 megapixel S.K. lens.

8. skylox posted on 21 Sep 2009, 08:33

played with the phone last week.....kinda crappy if you ask me....works well but like VZWFANGIRL said they should have renamed it Dare 2.....Also played with the new omnia 2....a little disappointed if you ask me...its much wider then the original which makes it weird to hold.....screen is nice but i thought i was gonna be blown away...not so much....the cube menu is cool though....anyways, got my touch pro 2 and unless the new diamond 2 is that much better, then im sticking with my phone.
