Maybe this is their attempt to quell the anger brought on by the fact it won't be receiving WP8.

It's all in the wording... had MS said "all existing WP7.x customers will get upgraded to WP8, apart from hardware-specific features", (like Apple would have said), there wouldn't be that much discussion about it.
MS was just too honest, which was probably not too clever, and will likely have a negative impact for Nokia in particular.

Usual in every smartphone, but with different name. Nokia best, but Motorola is the best ever.

At some point, I am going to have to reevaluate my opinion on what brand to buy. I truly would like to support Samsung, HTC or some other WP manufacturer just to promote diversity. But, these other brands have to step up their support of their customers, or you pretty much have to buy a Nokia, don't you?
Samsung has impressed me with the quality of my Focus S, but where are the extras? How much could they offer both their WP and Android offerings? Gonna have to wait and see, but Nokia may truly be the only choice if you want WP.

Downloaded the extras for my Lumia, and not only are the features welcome (and allow me to uninstall non-OEM apps and some beta apps from Nokia/Microsoft) I was using for the same functions, but they are automatically available from the camera app, no need to enter a separate app to use them. Brilliant!
