Yeah it's like the Jay Leno of phones. I always wondered the same thing! Is it to make the phone look BOSS? I just don't know! It's got a solid "chin" as said in the boxing world! lol It looks a little busted to me though!

Helps select the capacitive buttons located right above the lip.

The bottom lip holds the mouthpiece/ mic like it did on the original Droid. I find it is better there than on the bottom like the Droid 2 because it's easier to block out unwanted noise. I also like to grip my phone a certain way so my pinkie might come into contact with the mic (like what happens with my Thunderbolt).

Droid does this phone doesn't. It most likely will be like the x2 with a looked bootloader and no 4g. Dual core isn't that big of a deal to me until ice cream sandwich comes out which this phone may not get. If it does get that update it won't be for another year. I like the fact it has a 4 inch display and a physical keyboard but that isn't any different from the old device. Come on other carriers get the photon and we get this and the x2. Other carriers get the evo 3d we get thunderbolt. Same thing with the g2x and revolution and the charge and the s2. Verizon needs to offer better products. There never competitive and get by with great service and sub par phones. It seems like there always a year behind and most likely try do that just to maximize profits on old technology. That's such bull.

Well everything you just said points to leaving Verizon Wireless. When you get the first chance get out. It seems to me that you are not too happy. There are other choices & if you want better phones then you might need to jump ship. Sorry you sound so down, if my carrier was doing what you say, I would most definitely feel the same way. I am VERY happy with Sprint. Sprint works well where I live & the 4G is GREAT. NO COMPLAINTS HERE AT ALL! If Sprint has good coverage where you live then give them a shot.

chill out and wait for the Droid Bionic guy, it takes longer to prepare an awesome phone like that.

I can't wait till LTE is up and running in other countries that way I can use my Thunderbolt abroad (that is if they stay with the 700 MHz band). Apparently I can still use my CDMA phone is parts of Asia but... those damn charges will kill me.
As of right now LTE, CDMA, GSM and HSPA require separate radios so it'll be a chore to fit all of those in one phone. Hopefully they'll be integrated into the SoC soon.

the bottom lip acts as a guide most likely to prevent movement of slider. the last droid slider had some issues and it satisfies the original fans aesthetics too.

If this phone ever made it to Verizon and it had a dual core processor, was 4G Lte capable ,front facing camera and was gsm capable like the bb storm was I would definitely get it. Because so far none of Verizons Lte phone are gsm capable. The only reason I'm with att and have an atrix which I hate its because it works in Europe and I go to spain a lot. So yea I need gsm. And it sucks cuz I live in a Verizon 4G lte are in los Angeles. That's the only thing that's stopping me from getting a thunderbolt or a droid charge because it won't work in Europe. But whenever Verizon announces an Lte phone that has gsm capability I will be at the Verizon store the first day it comes out and dump at&t.

I feel the same as biophone. Sick of verizon and their disinterest in better technology. I live in DC so yeah I could be on any carrier and get decent service. But I'll be in South Dakota in a couple months and it'll be a road trip, and I need dependable service. So I am between a rock and a hard place.
I have been waitng to upgrade since March, and it really seems like VZW has no intent of coming with something top of the line. I'm sure they are hoping upgraders like me will give in and get one of the garbage phones they came out with in May.
But I want to wait and see what the Bionic is like and choose between the Droid 3 and that. Hope both come before I go on my trip, so I can test them out.

Wonder how much an unlocked GSM version would cost? Any gossip out there on that?

apparently the Milestone 3 has 512MB of it, what kind it is i don't know but that might not say anything about what the Droid 3 will have.

Has anyone seen any specs for the phone's thickness? The press release mentioned twice that it's thinner, but it doesn't say how much. Right now I'm between the Droid X2 and the Droid 3. The keyboard isn't a major factor, and I think I'd actually prefer the smaller 4" screen of the Droid 3 if the device was slimmer than the original Droid.

I'm actually glad they brought the bottom lip back from the original Droid design. Sure, it doesn't look as sleek as the Droid 2/Droid 2 Global with their seamless, Jay Leno's chinless form factor, but the lip on the original Droid had a function - so that you could hold the damned thing without accidentally pressing one of the four virtual keys located just below the screen. This is especially useful when holding the phone in landscape mode to watch a video. I can't tell you how many times on my Droid 2 I have accidentally pressed Back or Search while trying to watch a video. I am so psyched for this phone. I just can't believe it's probably gonna be 3g. Kinda f**king ridiculous, but that's Verizon.....still releasing old technology at new technology prices....*sigh* f**king profiteers....

I don't like the bionic as well. The interface is rubish and it's to big for me. I have small hands I would perfer a 3.8 inch screen 4 at the biggest.
Everybody who has other carriers doesn't get good service by me I need to have a verizon phone. It's a phone first toy second.
I ended up buying an iPhone cause it gets good battery life the screen is below 4 inches and the interface is good. But it has specs from last year and Verizon won't sell phones with this years specs like every other carrier does.

the interface is rubbish? what is it that you've SEEN that hasn't met your liking? the only time this version of Blur has been looked at extensively by anyone is the little hands on treatments with the Photon 4G and my mom said the same thing but i got her a Droid Charge anyway and she likes it. you can't really knock having a big phone til you give it a chance.
also compared to everyone else LTE is NEXT year's specs...

what is that swirl design on the back of the phone?
22. biophone posted on 17 Jun 2011, 20:45 0 0
I have given a big phone chance in the thunderbolt I was really excited at first but couldn't deal with a screen so big. I liked the interface and capabilities but will never buy such a big phone again. 4 inches is the biggest phone I would use. Photon Interface looks mechanical to me I don't like it but others may it's a personal thing. I feel like the bionic isn't being released to draw profits on old devices then make u buy a new one. On the lte being next years tec it felt like that with the thunderbolt. It was so fast but couldn't stay on 4g couldn't hold a charge and felt like the only reason the phone was so big is because of the attena. I lost my old phone and needed a new one and Verizon couldnt offer much to me so it's very disapionting. And I'm not paying extra to buy a phone off eBay I shouldn't have to.
