With initial packet data speeds up to 384 kbps Ericsson and AT&T Wireless completed the first WCDMA UMTS call in a live network environment in the Americas. True 3G technology makes quick downloads possible - big E-mail attachments, streaming audio and video. The first 1900 MHz UMTS/WCDMA system will have more than 100 cell sites in Dallas by the end of the year. The core and radio access network and mobile terminals are provided by Ericsson. The small-sized Sony Ericsson test units used are based on technology developed by Ericsson Mobile Platforms.
The efficient use of radio spectrum enables simultaneous access to everything from regular voice telephony to a range of content-rich, multimedia services.
