Elephone set to jump on the Mi MIX, bezel-free bandwagon

Generally speaking, smartphone fans seem to prefer as little bezel action as possible. The preference for edge-to-edge design is nothing particularly new, but Xiaomi's Mi MIX appears to have had an effect on the wider mobile arena. With a few OEMs said to be working on bezel-less concept phones, Chinese firm Elephone could also indulge in the near future. Known for bundling decent-sounding specs into remarkably cheap handsets, Elephone's so-called S8 looks uncannily similar to the MIX in the apparent press render above.

The bezels on the top and the two longer sides of the Elephone S8 will be almost non-existent, according to a report from Tech Updates. But while the profile is rather easy on the eye, the display and finish won't be the only exciting implementations. There will also be a deca-core processor, 128 GB internal storage, and an innovative fingerprint sensor and camera set up. Further details are seemingly under wraps at the moment, though, so we'll have to wait and see precisely what Elephone has in the works.

Leaks of borderless designs from the likes of Meizu and also Nubia indicate that the Mi MIX will have a significant influence over its peers. With Elephone now set to join the party, it's clear that Chinese vendors are keen to declare war on bezels.

Many will be hoping that the likes of Apple, Samsung and other global market leaders will soon do likewise. Whether they will or not remains to be seen, but given the warm reception to the Mi MIX across the tech world, we certainly wouldn't write it off.
