Thanks! My idea was to present this story from a somewhat more artistic, alternative perspective. It doesn't aim to tell you anything new, but rather, something that you already know, in a different way.

so.. apple was the "smart guy".. why? If it wasnt for Android trying to push flash, we would not have had the hardware war that has exploded in our very hands (sometimes literally). We've gone from 528mhz single core to 1.5ghz QUADcore in what.. 3 years? If it wasnt for "Andy and Flash wanting to play with all the toys", there would have never been a "need" for that kind of power increase. There sure as heck wasnt before hand. For the nearly 10 years before "andy and flash", processors barely made any progress in the mobile world. from 300mhz to 500-600mhz.. woop.

Seems Andy was really the smart one. By trying to play with everything he created the need for more power, which prompted manufacturers to push the limits over and over again... now we ALL benefit from that. If it was up to the "smart" apple, wed all probably getting to 1.2ghz single cores right now.

Apple didnt want Flash on the iphone because it wasnt super stable on 600mhz processors and flash required access to things that Apple didnt want to give access to. The rest is marketing fluff and Steve Job's stubbornness and nothing else.

i agree, if it weren't for Andy and Flash, we wouldn't have the experience of playing with all those beautiful toys right now..

But lets face it, Apple was also right, we may not be mature enough for that kind of power.. And that we should probably wait..

But from my opinion, personal one i must emphasised, Andy and Flash were the better ones, because remember, experience is the best teacher.. and you will never know if you never try..

turn out, we are actually quite mature for those "toys"..

Awesome story. However:

Apple = smart? Please.

In real life you don't "break" any "padlocks" or "break in" or cause any damage by having Flash on your Android phone. Why adobe decided to pull out of the mobile world is anyone's guess. I am not sure it was a good decision. In the end - the kids - us - do have fun with flash anywhere.

The Apple kid couldn't physically get into the special structure, since his father programmed his brain to be physically unable to even talk with flash, not to mention hang out with him.

This is what I thought too.
But nice job, Ray! I have a passion for creative writing as well as technology and this is great for both ends of the spectrum! :D

neither android or apple could get into the structure...

what he was saying since Andy was so open and approachable he allowed flash to use his ingenuity to break into the special place. this caused the kids to enjoy all the goodness of toys they "never seen before" "NOW"...

apple is smart... come on man... get off your "i hate apple" horse for a second and be real a billion dollar company aint ran by uneducated people...

i knew "somebody" was gonna make this out of an apple insult...smh

the apple kid didnt want to go in the structure at all due to him being safe and cautious. he figured "over time" he'll eventually be given whats inside of the special structure.

at the end of the story you see that even tho both kids are "different" they both benefit from their own logic...

put the HATE down for a second and relax man...

But thing is - you don't have to do anything special to use flash! Why Apple doesn't have it? Not because of some code incompatibility or hardware limitations, but because of Mr. Jobs. Android has it because it's open. And is based on Linux. That means that anything which is based on Linux can run flash.

Again - nothing special about being able to run flash on a mobile device. It's just a matter of being open vs being a control freak aka Apple kid.

"a billion dollar company aint ran by uneducated people"

Really? You do realize that these two parameters have absolutely nothing in common, do you? Apple was also a huge company when they kicked Steve and let Scully and Amelio take over. Didn't do them any good, now did it?

android didnt start with flash support...

it came after the first or second update... (donut i think)... which is why his story makes sense that the "flash" kid came to their mobile hood...

i understand your last paragrah ilia... i'm just saying the company is still "smart" either way you look at it... its just not a good argument to say apple/google/windows or any company isn't smart...

and in my opinion in think "special" in this story means... the ability to access certain things that neither OS was able to through the web. flash helped andy and his friends "see" that...

apple guy couldn't or didnt want to due to rules his parents had him follow. but he felt that once he grew up (we all know it takes apple forever to implement things due to their own parameters) he will be able to enjoy whatever flash allows you to see now without any harm or caution.

neither approach is wrong... its just we all HATE rules...lol i get that... we don't want to be locked down or choices made for us...

Precisely. And in a constant advance of technology - you can't just simply wait to implement existing things "the right way". I bet in 2035 the iPhone will finally have widgets. When everyone else will be already using Google Glass 5. :D

It's a good story. As someone who's personified he mobile world in stories before, I dig. However, I think Apple's painted as too benevolent here. Considering Jobs's legendary callousness and arrogance, the Apple guy would have really tried to rub his "rightness" in Andy's face.

But again, great job. It would be fun to see more of these.

Nice little sweet story, Ray. I think it helped most people understand the 'Flash' saga on smartphones more easily................. Though flash was very demanding on mobile processors and battery life, but most people out there like it very much, so I was hoping that Adoble will come out with some solution, which would had made flash less resource hungry on smartphones........... Hope all the website converts to HTML5 soon, otherwise we will be seeing 'flash not installed' or 'flash not supported' messages too often, as after ios and windowsphone 7/8, now Android is also moving away from flash..........
