Ebony Moto X unboxing and impressions

0. phoneArena 21 Feb 2014, 20:54 posted on

As those of you who follow the site know by now, I'm a fan of the Moto X. I was sold on the device the first time I held it back in August of last year, and once the Moto Maker support extended to T-Mobile and the price dropped a bit, I traded in my Nexus 5 for the Moto X. But, the entire time, what I've really wanted is the ebony wood version of the Moto X, and now I have it...

The tiny speaker holes show some nice craftsmanship. Love the curve and grain on this wood. Makes me wanna fill the tub up halfway and ride it like a surfboard.... sorry couldn't resist. I'm not mature enough for this thread.

I liked it until I saw that third picture... Looks like it could just get peeled off like wood sticker paper.

I have one with the same back sitting 5 feet away from me, and trust me, it doesn't look, or feel, cheap. I still think the teak and walnut look better, but the ebony is very nice.

KillgoreTroutTime is confirming what I thought but you're denying it...

I'll make my opinions if I ever get to use one.

I literally just got the same phone today in the mail so it is kind of funny to see this article on the same day. I agree with him for the most part. I am a little disappointed on how the back feels. I was expecting more of a "wood" feel but instead in feels like a laminate counter top. The other thing I immediately noticed about the phone is the screen. I was just using an LG G2 and I swear this AMOLED moto x display is WAY better, which is saying a lot. The awesome screen counters the just okay back, so I am satisfied with it.

Day 2 and I am liking it more and more. The vibration is really nice on this phone, better than the other two phones I have had(Iphone 4 and LG G2). The screen is also just amazing. Apparently 720p really doesn't matter at all, at least not for me. The AMOLED is awesome.

It does look very pretty. I'm impressed that Motorola stuck to their decision and made the wood backs despite the logistical issues.

Took them too long to release the wooden backs. People are going to pass up on it now that newer phones are on the way.
