Dummy Motorola DROID X2 units appear at Costco

0. phoneArena 12 May 2011, 00:35 posted on

It looks like the rumored May 12th launch date for the Motorola DROID X2 won't come to pass after all, but we are getting close considering that dummy units of the phone have arrived at Costco...

Yep, dummy display is not Gingerblur. I hope it's like the original X, where the update came out within about a month of release.

Did they really need new dummy units? Wouldn't it of been cheaper to swap out the image inside of it?

Because 4G isn't everywhere yet, and it seems 4G phones are selling at premium prices right now. This gives a high performance phone alternative that's cheaper to those who don't have 4G yet. It's essentially moving the X out of the high end slot and into the mid grade slot, much like what happened to the Droid last year, to make room for the Bionic.

I wonder how the benchmarks will score the X2? Until v. 2.3 is released for the X2, the dual core chipset won't get to show it's stuff, so I hope v. 2.3 is around the corner for the X2.

I am also really curious about the EVO 3D.... Somehow, I suspect that a new phone is in my near future (like around the July-August timeframe).

I think VZW laughs at us when we cite release dates. I for one want the X2 and am not laughing that it isn't here... Quit dragging butt, VZW and just release the dang thing!

Hmmm interesting. Just looked at past releases and they were on Thursdays. That's obviously today. A few were on Fridays. I bet next Thursday we'll see stuff. Not based on any "leak" but the dummy phones showing up a week ahead of a launch isn't unreasonable (Trophy, X2). Just a guess...let's see if I'm right.

Am I the only one that noticed " Thur May 19" on the dummy version? I wonder if that means a week from today (the expected release date). Maybe a coincidence, but I think that is the drop date.

Oooh...didn't notice the May 19 as the photos were blurry so I didn't look that closely. Think you're on to something there, Law!
