@DroidLanding comes back online, new DROID on the way?
0. phoneArena 18 Jun 2013, 15:54 posted on
The Verizon DROID brand has been pretty quiet for a long time now. The last DROID device to launch was the HTC DROID DNA back in November of last year, and the @DroidLanding Twitter feed has been silent since early November as well. Today, @DroidLanding has come back online, so does that mean we should expect a new DROID device?...

Don't they already have the DNA? It's the VERIZON DROID version. except the body material is different they don't need the DNA on VERIZON when they already have every single phone including the RAZR HD N MAXX

I think this is what the OP meant. Some of us still think punctuation is important.
It's amazing to me how 2 different viewpoints keep coming up. The OP says we have every single phone where most Verizon customers complain about the lack of phone selection. As far as Verizon goes, they generally get the phones, but either they're rebranded or personalized for Verizon, or the best variants are only available to GSM carriers.
Two years ago everyone got the Galaxy S2 and Note, but not Verizon. Last year everyone got the One series except for Verizon, then at the end of the year we got the DNA, a modified and rebranded version of the One X. Last year the GSM carriers got the Nexus 4. This year the GSM carriers are getting the Google Editions of the S4 and One (& possibly the Xperia Z). About the only thing Verizon has as an exclusive is the Razr series. Most other Droid phones were simply rebranded versions of other phones.

Oooo. Unless they're releasing the HTC Butterfly S as the DROID DNA 2 after all (I expected this until Verizon announced it would sell the One)... hmmm. Hmmm. I would love to hear about a new Motorola DROID flagship, but all the leaks have been about the Moto X.
DROID RAZR X anyone?

hmm...could Motorola be making the Moto X a Droid device on Verizon?
or perhaps the HTC One has gotten some Droid retrofitting?
i dunno, this IS a mystery. o:
a very, very curious one...

If I were to predict purely based on timing of leaks, I would say DNA+ (Butterfly S). And I would give a DNA with BoomSound a good hard look if they throw in more storage. We've seen the device pass through bluetooth cert and we've seen the Butterfly S on blurrycam. It even has a model number and codename - 6445LVW DLXPLUS. This is about where we were when the DNA was announced last fall. But... the One!

I hope it's the Droid 5, I do not want to see the death of android slide out keyboard devices!!!!!

It was nice to have the option, but unless you know something about Droid 4 sales that I don't... that was the end of the line. 'sides, with Swype and SwiftKey and the like, I don't miss physical keyboards.
Good to see you come out of the woodwork tho!

"We do know for sure that there are no DROID branded devices in the Motorola pipeline."
But can't Verizon go by it's own branding, regardless of Moto's? It is Verizon that's licensed the use of Droid afterall.
Also, the Droid Eris was by HTC so it's not like Verizon is letting Moto use the term exclusively.
If it's not the Moto X that's coming, I know I wouldn't mind seeing an HTC One in Droid black & red.

I don't think Verizon will mix and match the One and Droid brands. It would confuse things too much. They can however extend the DROID DNA brand to make it more One-like. HTC did the work for them.

Not just the Droid Eris, but also the Droid Incredible series (1, 2, & 4GLTE), & the DNA. There's also the Samsung Droid Charge. Moto doesn't have a lock on the Droid name.

25. roldefol (Posts: 3260; Member since: 28 Jan 2011)
And we're talking about BlackBerry... why?
26. Daftama (Posts: 581; Member since: 03 Nov 2012)
A lesson to be learned. ..dont make years to make a flagship that years behind
27. roldefol (Posts: 3260; Member since: 28 Jan 2011)
Right... the last DROID flagship was the DNA, which was just released 7 months ago. It's still pretty competitive.
