Does Beats Audio on the HTC Rezound get you excited?

0. phoneArena 03 Nov 2011, 16:35 posted on

HTC has just announced its very first Beats-powered smartphone for the U.S. market - the HTC Rezound! Of course, we've seen the manufacturer produce some other Beats-rocking phones, like the Sensation XE and Sensation XL, but those are for Europe, so the Rezound is kind of special, being the first such handset on U.S. soil...

Okay... Let's assume I end up buying the Transformer Prime, and probably the PS Vita. Now I just need to decide upon a 4G phone: Nexus, Rezound, or Razr.

- I'll constantly use my phone for music (beats audio) +1 Rezound
- I'll mainly use my phone for tethering (unlocked boatloader) +1 Nexus
- I'll often use my phone for GPS/Navigation (visibility on the go) + 1 Nexus
- I've got a Fuji FinePix 3D for stills, so the camera isn't going to sway me....
- Obviously I want a future-proof phone (NFC/ICS/TI OMAP 4460) + 1 Nexus
- I want to look sexy (high fashion) while splashing around on the beach (rugged) + 1 Razr

Nexus 3:1 over Rezound and Razr...

i feel the same. except the camera is important to me I am still not sure whether the Rezound or the Galaxy Nexus is better. The Razr still has focus issues from the samples I have seen and it looks like it has the longest lag still.

I like your take on the PSvita :) and importance list.

My list
Call quality +1 Razr
Batt Life + 1 Razr
Camera + 1 Nexus(because of ICS zero shutter lag)
Audio + 1 Rezound
Build + 1 Razr(metal, kevlar, gorilla glass, water resistant, thin)
Speed + 1 Nexus(OMAP4460 vs OMAP4430... SNP FTL)
LTE +1 all of three Nexus, Razr, and Rezound

SOOOOOOOOOO +5 Razr > +3 Nexus > +2 Rezound

Razr FTW

IMO Razr would probably have the worst battery life, especially since it's not removable (I carry two batteries with me). Have yet to see call quality, so I'll withhold judgement for now. Though I'd also give Razr a -1 for the locked bootloader.

i like it. But i dont love it. I have a Dell Streak for my phone. And my Music collection is on a 160GB Ipod Classic. With Bose Noise Cancelling Headphones. Haha dont get me wrong. Beats is a great thing. But IMO its all about bass. No true sound clarity unless you go for the high end headsets. And i HATE in ear headphones. Had they given us the headsets that came with the Sensation XL id be all over this. But until then ill rock my Bose. They cost WAY less are way more discreet on ear. and have one hell of a warranty.

EXACTLY, I can't stand in ear headphones either. One they are uncomfortable, two it's a pain in the butt just to get them in your ear and get them to stay in, and three did I mention they are uncomfortable?

With ICS just around the corner and possibly being released at the end of this month I hate to say it but no. Sure it's nice to have and this phone could be even more of a beast running ICS opposed to 2.3 Sense but as nice as Sense is to look at, it's too much of a power hog and even with a overclocked dual core 1.5ghz processor it still falls behind.

@RORY, the Rezound has a better processor than the Nexus, 1.5 as opposed to 1.3 on the Nexus. What other phone has a larger processor than 1.5, and that is dual? And the version of Sense on it is 3.5. I don't know what HTC phone you've had experience with, and this is just me personally, but I think Sense is the most stable of UIs compared to what other manufacturers are putting on their phones. I have an Incredible and I keep my brightness on 100%, and my battery lasts me a minimum of 8 hrs with regular use. I know it's all personal preference, but you should at least do a little research and not be so quick to judge specs.

Grrrr what's with all of these phones with similar specs!!! Each have their ups and downs but now it's kind of down to the Nexus and Rezound for me. I think if the Rezound has a sexy body then I may go for it, I want another white phone. Hopefully it's thin. Also, it has a slightly faster stock processor than the Nexus and a slightly better graphics chip with Beats audio. Of course the Nexus has futuristic capabilities and ICS but I'm sure the Rezound will at least get ICS. The only problem I have is the Rezound is gonna have a nasty HTC skin with Verizon bloatware and updates far behind the Nexus. And who knows what battery life is like.

love the thumbs down, sorry d00ds I just want a phone thats thin like a supermodel and will slide in my pocket no problem. thin is in! plus the girls loved my white Samsung Fascinate because it was so thin and now the Nexus is even thinner. I think the RAZR is too thin, like Mary Kate or Lindsay Lohan thin, yuck.

Synack, until you've held the Rezound in your hand, you really don't know what you're talking about. This phone is light, and it's definitely not bulky.

Compared to the other phones coming out yeah, it's bulky. It's not even a full mm less than the thunderbolt. The thunderbolt was at least a curved phone. You're looking at a much larger incredible 2.

The Rezound has the slowest CPU of the three phones. It might be faster clocked but it's less efficient and overall still slower than a lower clocked TI OMAP (and even Exynos).

I'm not too jazzed about Beats if it's going to be overly-bassy. I love bass, but I'd rather have sharp, balanced sound. Hopefully the music player will have an equalizer setting... if not, I'm getting an iPod.

"and will accordingly set all the special sound enhancements to on." This worries me. Are we going to be stuck with bass boost, simulated surround sound, and all that other crap?

No, there is an option to turn it off. You don't have to use it.

You're kidding right ? Beats headphones aren't a gimmick. Either you haven't used them, or you can't afford them. People who say that things suck then compare them to a really s**tty item usually can't afford the expensive item.

Beats are over priced. You can buy production quality headphones for the same price. They're great to listen to your music on but overall they're severly overrated. I create my own music and I'd never rely on a pair of beats to makke sure I'm getting the right sound.

Don't assume that if someone doesn't like them, it's because they can't afford them. Beats headphones are NOT audiophile equipment. They're ok but generally add way too much bass. If that's your thing, fine, but good equipment should not color the sound. The goal of any quality audio equipment is to reproduce the recorded sound faithfully and uncolored in any way. The beats software is basically an EQ with bass boost. It's nothing but a silly gimmick aimed at people that don't know any better.

How about a "I keep my music player and phone separate" option?

Either way, hell no. I think it's great they're trying to amp up sound quality on phones, but I don't think that's a primary focus of most cell owners.

"I keep my music player and phone separate" option

I actually hate this option after having all my music with me wherever I go (car, work, gym, hallway, campfire, out with friends, on travel) on my iPhone 4.

On a car/plane/train trip, you only need 1 device.....your phone.

This is missing a poll option:

"No, Beats is a s**tty product and a marketing ploy by Monster."

Well, mctcm, here's a solution: Don't get the phone then. No one is forcing it on you. And you have obviously never heard what music sounds like with Beats headphones. The Rezound is a 4G phone, going to be sold at the same price as the Bionic, $299. The headphones are a free deal. Don't like them? There are plenty of other cheap phones for you, since I am guessing that quality isn't important to you.

you have it completely backwards. quality is so important that i would never regress to this.
