Do you want the Galaxy S IV to have an S Pen?
0. phoneArena posted on 17 Oct 2012, 08:11
With no one starting the rumor mill about the next-generation Galaxy S, we thought - why this can't be us?! Of course, we're not really starting a rumor mill here, but just wanted your input on this: how about the Galaxy S IV having an S Pen of its own...

why not if the price stays the same?

that is what the note 3 is for. The only reason I'd get an S3 because it has no SPEn and is more formal.
23. PAPINYC (limited) posted on 17 Oct 2012, 09:26 7 1
Formal!!!???? If you don't want anyone to see it then, don't take it out the hole'!
I think it's a fabulous idea (and, I can't stress FABULOUS enough); it will be great for those who completely dismiss the Galaxy Note 2 because they would need two hands to hold it. Ironically, even if the S IV had an S-Pen, now they'll really need two hands.
My guess is, all the criTiCs are just waiting for Apple to announce the iPen before they can go goo-goo-ga-ga over it and then stand online to ponder what it would feel like. Oooooooooohhh.........

Idea of using one hand and other hand then you know. What do you do with your other hand? Jack of or masturbation.

Always additional hardware means higher price.

Use the slot allocated to hold the S Pen which will be used no more than 5% of the time for a larger battery which can be used 100% of the time...

iPlan to use my S-Pen all the time; I miss having a stylus (gosh, the good ole Windows Mobile days).

I think the people who think you wouldn't use the S-Pen often haven't owned the Galaxy Note to really know. I originally got the Galaxy Note for the larger screen, the S-Pen was just an added bonus. But now, I must say that a device having the S-Pen is a feature to look for. I have used the S-Pen for jotting down notes or memos, writing notes on powerpoint presentations, and for photo editing such as cropping and writing. After you own a device that has it, you start to see what an asset it is.
As far as battery life concerns go, you can increase battery life while still having room for an S-Pen slot. You have to remember that as technology is progressing, we are able to fit bigger things in smaller packages. New developments in battery technology, the shrinking of chipsets and sensors that give more room for the battery, and more efficient chipsets and screen technologies all contribute to increasing battery life.

Then why are the size of these galaxies ever "increasing" in size rather than decreasing or staying at a balance? Seems like samsung would rather go to the extreme instead of taking the more compact route to me
Edit: I did not thumbs you down btw
50. Dr.Phil posted on 17 Oct 2012, 23:44 1 0
@XPERIA-KNIGHT, I trust that since we have been civil in our past disagreements or discussions that you wouldn't have thumbs-ed me down.
I think the reason the screen sizes have been increasing is because that seems to be what consumers are wanting. Remember, it's not just Samsung that is offering these 4.7-4.8 inch screen devices. I'm sure somewhere in their device planning they did some market research to see what consumers wanted. In the end, though, I cannot tell you a for sure reason why they have increased the screen sizes of their Galaxy S line. The Galaxy SIII is actually not that much larger than the iPhone 5 in terms of length (it is, indeed, much wider). Yet, the screen size is a whole 0.8 inch difference. So, I don't know what the future holds for screen sizes, but all I can say is that the devices are selling. I guess until the day comes that they find out that consumers don't want a larger screen size, or perhaps want the option of the same device across many different screen sizes, we are stuck with the larger screens.

if Nokia's has multiple touch input that why not for Galaxy s4.By the way this is a common question.

if S series has stylus, then whats the point of Note series??? I think Samsung wont do that for good
34. Mario1017 posted on 17 Oct 2012, 12:24 1 0
The SIV having S Pen would make the Note redundant, especially as the galaxy s is increasing in size over the years.
3. AliNSiddiqui posted on 17 Oct 2012, 08:15 5 2
The S-Pen in the first Note was meh... at that time I would've said no! But Note II brings amazing innovations including the ability to hover over flash objects as if you were hovering with a mouse providing a true complete browsing experience that even Android couldn't do until now
17. fervid posted on 17 Oct 2012, 08:41 4 0
I'm already using Hover on my Original Note. It came with the ICS update. The only thing they added was better resolution and more software that now supports hover. Fatter pen is nice too, but I like the Plastic tip over the rubber that will wear out in the next.

NOOOOOOOO! No S Pen! I actually want a smaller screen! 4.3 or 4.5 inches max please! These screens are getting out of control!
Smaller Screen and awesome camera! Thats what I want!
8. abdane posted on 17 Oct 2012, 08:26 0 0
im guessing the GS4 will be at least 4.8", i think it'll be 5"
42. andro. posted on 17 Oct 2012, 15:07 1 0
S4 will have a 5 inch alright id say but completely edge to edge design so perhaps the same size as the s3 if not perhaps a tiny bit smaller.
10. someones4 posted on 17 Oct 2012, 08:27 6 0
awesome camera yes. Definitely no smaller screen.
5. darkdroid posted on 17 Oct 2012, 08:23 6 0
if we want a S pen we would rather buy Galaxy note2 ...a big no for S pen in a flagship phone
6. timtimity posted on 17 Oct 2012, 08:25 2 0
I've not used the S Pen but I'm not sure how many people would actually use it. I think it's useful on screens which are 5" and above where you're used to holding the device in one hand and using your other hand to touch the screen, but not so much for smaller screens which can be used in one hand. I remember the stylus that came with my Nokia 5800. I never used it.
9. someones4 posted on 17 Oct 2012, 08:26 1 0
If and only if the s4 has at least a 5 inch screen. It also must have the functionalities of the note2 or more.
Most would say it's only a gimmick and it's useless. IMO, i value the fact that we are given the choice to use should we wanted to
27. cretinick posted on 17 Oct 2012, 10:04 2 0
I think that Samsung will probably put a 5" in the S4. Something like the HTC J Butterfly. It already put 4.8"... 0.2" more is irrelevant!
And Samsung already show that they don't give a f**k to have very similar phones in the market. (Galaxy S3 Mini = Galaxy S Duos. Galaxy Premier is almost the same phone as GSIII)
11. RaKithAPeiRiZ posted on 17 Oct 2012, 08:27 3 1
If this happens then the Note will be obsolete
12. protozeloz posted on 17 Oct 2012, 08:27 3 0
If its sold as a separated accessory then yes... then yes but it they need so compromise the SIV form and everything then the answer is a NO
I have a better rumor, a 7" Galaxy Note would be more fitting, With A 5 MP cam, a Nice front cam, and A 250-300 price tag would be better, I mean it has the size of your average note taking app, plus the added S-pen value and features, Great for reading anotating while still portable and more sturdy
14. rickywinataa posted on 17 Oct 2012, 08:34 2 1
i want s IV to be 4.5 inch, let galaxy note III has the next Spen
15. marchels14 posted on 17 Oct 2012, 08:36 4 0
s pen is for galaxy note phones , there is no point of making two flagship phones with same features, if you want to have s pen then get note 1 or 2 if no get galaxy s 2 or 3.
16. g2a5b0e posted on 17 Oct 2012, 08:40 1 0
I don't think most people would mind it because it would be optional, but I say no simply because the Note needs more to differentiate it from the S series than just a larger screen size. Give the Galaxy S4 an S-Pen & watch Note sales plummet.
18. Lwazi_N posted on 17 Oct 2012, 08:47 1 0
Well, you can't have your bread buttered on both sides, now... Can you? Because if the S Pen is made availabel for the S IV, that will turn it into the Galaxy Note III. Then that will mean no more Galaxy S phones. So you choose, do you want the Note III or S IV. But for those who don't want the S Pen, the S IV will be available for them and vicar versa.
19. bayhuy posted on 17 Oct 2012, 08:51 0 3
As long as it has cheap plastic body and dumb design...even the S-pen cannot convince me...
21. ngyixian96 posted on 17 Oct 2012, 08:57 1 1
How about no
Samsung may save it for the next galaxy note lll
24. joseph98 posted on 17 Oct 2012, 09:28 1 1
Why need S pen in a smaller device just buy galaxy note with the bigger screen.
41. jimjam posted on 17 Oct 2012, 13:29 0 0
why buy a note when you can get a note 10.1 ... blah blah because size matters
26. Daca01 posted on 17 Oct 2012, 10:03 0 0
No S Pen Please! What it would be nice for SG IV if it could Record Underwater that it will be challenging, do you read me Samsung?
28. GALAXY-STORM posted on 17 Oct 2012, 10:11 0 0
Galaxy s3 had an stylus like C-pen which came separately. Though I wouldn't mind s4 with an s-pen but that might kill the note 2 and note 3 because s-pen is its special feature.
31. Savage posted on 17 Oct 2012, 11:20 1 1
If the SGS IV has an S-Pen, what will Samsung do with the Note series? They will surely introduce Note 3 next year. Will they call these two the Small Note and Big Note? No right? So the SGS doesn't need an S-Pen. We have the Note for that.
32. vddeguzman posted on 17 Oct 2012, 11:28 0 0
Samsung's lineup of phone will be more confusing if this happens. Dont get me wrong, but it's a fact that Samsung has a lot of handsets, launching new ones left and right in diff markets, and I do like this. But the drawback of making such a unique accessory available to other models aside from note 2 will make note 2 not so relevant but more of an alternative for people who want a larger screen. In my opinion, adding an Spen to S4 is not a good move
33. jamiedroid posted on 17 Oct 2012, 11:38 0 0
they must bring out a s-pen version for those who want one
35. scsa852k posted on 17 Oct 2012, 13:01 0 0
What's the point of having G Note if they'll add the S Pen on GS IV?
37. laheelahee posted on 17 Oct 2012, 13:21 1 0
no. they should just make a Note Mini for people who want the S-pen but want a smaller screen
45. RORYREVOLUTION posted on 17 Oct 2012, 17:58 0 0
Here's what I want the SGS4 and Note 3 to have in common and only have in common. Specs!(Processor, ram, memory, android version) Yep that's it.
The Note devices as their name applies should have the S Pen and be larger in size and screen resolution.
While the SGS4 should be more pocketable, smaller, and more narrow for ease of comfort.
47. tiara6918 posted on 17 Oct 2012, 20:08 0 0
It would be better to have an option of buying the s4 with the s pen seperately
48. taz89 posted on 17 Oct 2012, 20:09 0 0
if they dont increase the size of the phone and keep it the same as the s3 then i am all for it but if it means making it larger then no
