Do you like where Apple is heading with iOS 7?

No matter what you think about the new iOS 7 interface and features, one thing is for certain - Sir Jony Ive, Apple's lead designer, really shook things up in the software department since he started coordinating the fusion with hardware last year...

Can I like where Apple is headed, but also feel they're only catching up to Android and WP?
10. roldefol (Posts: 2971; Member since: 28 Jan 2011)
Multitasking seems a pretty obvious additon to me, seeing how it's been available on PCs forever and ever. It's only news because the iPhone was missing that feature for so long.
So what we're seeing is the convergence of Android, WP8, and iOS features... leveling the playing field.

they shouldn't call it "innovation" or something new if the face is just a copy cat since outer looks create first impression.
54. fanboy1974 (Posts: 1238; Member since: 12 Nov 2011)
Plus Apple has the nerve to smack talk against Android but then takes features from them.
26. AnTuTu (Posts: 867; Member since: 14 Oct 2012)
They wait and watch what other giants bring to the market. And then after couple of years they merge all those features together and say "Innovation".
What a shame.....

@AnTuTu: Isn't that a description of what samsung did when it released its galaxy line? Apple had just "made the bed" when samsung decided to intrude the slumber party ...
43. wildfiregt (Posts: 97; Member since: 10 Jun 2013)
Samsung was sued mainly for the design of the phones
Otherwise they would sue Google for Android
Can you tell what samsung stole from apple ? Design ? b**** please
57. E.N. (Posts: 2329; Member since: 25 Jan 2009)
Visual voicemail, accelerometer, gyroscope, proximity sensor, fine scrubbing, S Voice, Android's web browsers are based on Apple's webkit (I believe), pinch zoom, rubber-band effect, clock application, calculator application, home button + power button to screen shot, etc etc...and yes design. Don't forget Samsung had a 130 page document comparing the iPhone to the Samsung phones and no other document was found for any other smartphone maker. Don't pretend that Samsung doesn't borrow from other companies.
And in terms of developer options, Google is continuously releasing tools mimicking what Apple releases during its conferences like bluetooth pairing for games, in-app purchases, and just recently syncing options across multiple smartphones and tablets. Does this not constitute "catching-up?"
63. androidrocks (Posts: 45; Member since: 14 Apr 2012)
so you mean to say phones prior to iphone did not have any of these features?
59. -box- (Posts: 3819; Member since: 04 Jan 2012)
They've always done that. It's just about their sole modus operandi
46. maulgandhi (Posts: 46; Member since: 11 Jan 2013)
This is more like Android and Webos period. You can't called this innovation.
61. Trex95 (Posts: 547; Member since: 03 Mar 2013)
Stealing LOl Android copy and steal the whole idea from IOS, Symbian and WP.
65. noim1 (Posts: 297; Member since: 15 May 2012)
Afta this update i am seeing Apple will Closely watch the Next release of Android 5.0 KLP ...& next year they will copy the features in iOS 8 & call it innovation & will sue samsung for having these features in 5.0...Makes me Laugh at Apple ....how low can they get !!!

The messaging interface is like Blacberry's flow smh

Yeaaah! And old UI and iconography of iOS was not very customizable and was already boring. And voila! iOS 7 just made it a lot more boring this time! Great. Just great! :/
23. Zero0 (Posts: 583; Member since: 05 Jul 2012)
More or less my thoughts.
As much as I like to rag on them, they legitimately added some good features. Yes, none of them are groundbreaking (every other OS has an equivalent...), but iOS7 isn't missing nearly as much as iOS6 was. The UI is actually a big improvement. Not crazy about the icons, but everything else looks pretty. Still wouldn't buy an iPhone (I hate Apple's legal policies).

It should head down south option
37. a_merryman (Posts: 682; Member since: 14 Dec 2011)
I completely agree. They caught up a lot in one go though. Still have work to do, but definitely starting to move in the right direction again. It has me seriously considering staying with iOS instead of going back to Android this fall.
On an aside note...did they just get rid of the down-voting on here? Hopefully that will temper some of the trolls.... I don't think it will...but yeah.

iOS 7 is just like iOS of old with "flat" icons that are larger & more colorful than before. It's HEAVILY influenced by Android & WP8. It's got some of the best features of each.
It reminds me of the MIUI ROM for Android. Anyone who knows the root scene has been rocking the iOS 7 look for YEARS now on Android especially if they are using MIUI. To me iOS 7 is still inferior to MIUI because MIUI has beed there & done that. It's sad that Apple couldn't make their new iOS 7 be at least original some what.
Android does iOS 7 better than Apple because MIUI LITERALLY has been there & done that before iOS 7 was a twinkle in Tim Cook's eye.
44. wildfiregt (Posts: 97; Member since: 10 Jun 2013)
in fact MIUI rocks, it offers so many other features like themes. Locker, widgets and so on
Just waiting 4.2 release to get it now
53. Tsoliades (Posts: 213; Member since: 22 Dec 2012)
Yep! I'm still a die-hard Android fanboy for several reasons, but I really like iOS 7.
Windows Phone is the one that needs to play the most catch-up now.
55. fanboy1974 (Posts: 1238; Member since: 12 Nov 2011)
I do like iOS 7 but only because these features were already on Android, WebOS and WP. Features I have gotten use to. Now if only Apple can make a 5" phone and a phablet the copying will be complete.
It's as if Apple cherry picked features from all the mobile operating systems. Hell, I would have done the same.
2. nnaatthhaannx2 (Posts: 820; Member since: 19 Oct 2011)
I'm just pleased by the fact that they actually changed it.
48. roldefol (Posts: 2971; Member since: 28 Jan 2011)
Great. We can look forward to a whole slew of those from now on.

Pfft, this website has one of the most biased communities I've ever seen (not the writers, despite all the accusations thrown at them)
Don't believe a word of the comments section. Not the one below me, above, or even mine. Just don't.
6. stealthd (Posts: 968; Member since: 12 Jun 2011)
This commenter is great, give him mad thumbs up!
4. HASHTAG (unregistered)
Such a bias poll. But I just think that they are catching up. Don't think that the interface is off.
8. roldefol (Posts: 2971; Member since: 28 Jan 2011)
Exactly my point. Of course if those are the only two choices, the poll will come out roughly 50/50...thus not pissing too many readers off, and keeping us coming back for more. Same goes for their comparison tests.
21. Penny (Posts: 1185; Member since: 04 Feb 2011)
Yeah. I really wanted to vote that "I like the direction," but I sure as hell don't want to say it's like a brand new player. I also don't want to say that the interface seems off, because like I said, I think it's headed in the right direction. Can't choose either.
60. -box- (Posts: 3819; Member since: 04 Jan 2012)
Agreed, they need more choices and/or ways to select multiple answers
5. shamashu9 (Posts: 99; Member since: 10 Jun 2013)
"When you pick something up for the first time "
-??? you mean picking UI designs of other OS for the first time?.
HE must be sued by Microsoft and Google
9. PhoneCritic (Posts: 359; Member since: 05 Oct 2011)
To me its really all catch up. I really can't see why anyone would call this brand new and innovating? There is no Iron Man tech here. Just what others were doing already. I don't knock Apple on these tweaks but anyone can see that these features are not new. Toggles, Multitasking, allowing Siri to have a male voice, iRadio, Car mode, Airdrop, etc... all these features have been on other devices for years. Apple is playing catch up here. That is the unbiased truth.
11. PAPINYC (Posts: 2305; Member since: 30 Jul 2011)
Okay, I'll bite, what's different about it other than the new iVoiceTime ™®© ???
BTW, I've been using Groove IP for awhile now to make calls through Google Voice; a wittle' bit late Apple.
12. KINGJUAN27 (Posts: 195; Member since: 02 Jul 2012)
Honestly, I prefer the old UI and iconography. They're clearly just catchin up with WP and Android! LOL :D
16. shamashu9 (Posts: 99; Member since: 10 Jun 2013)
THEN don't update your iOS. You will need microsoft account or google account to update to iOS 7

To be honest i like the new changes and i am an iphone user but i think it is too late for apple to proud of things android did it years ago so i think it is the summary of all replys here
24. speckledapple (Posts: 879; Member since: 29 Sep 2011)
Oooo, its neck and neck. I thought some of the features were similar to what other platforms have already just with the traditional Apple take on it. That said, glad they did get rid of all that old design language. Flat is the way to go.
25. HighTechToid (Posts: 5; Member since: 15 Mar 2013)
Let's be real here; Apple didn't really do anything with iOS that its competitors aren't already doing that would make someone from the competition go 'hey, I think I'll switch.' All they did today is make their most loyal customers or those who are too deeply engaged in the Apple ecosystem happy. The lock screen is almost an exact duplicate of the Samsung Galaxy S4 (irony?). Multitasking is basically webOS with HTC's Android interface. Control Center is something they should have had years ago anyway. Notification center and the fact that everything is now 'opaque' is just one of the more popular jailbreak apps for iPhone (IntelliScreenX) that they tried to position as their own. They took a shot at Samsung with Airdrop, but ironically again Samsung phones can send files to each other without having to 'bump' (bumping is just another convenience option option).
Really, the only thing I liked was what they did with the calendar and activation lock, because I live off of my calendar. And even their calendar looks to be shortlived since Any.Do has their calendar that looks just as nice coming out. But, in the end, it's the same OS with some features they've needed for years now anyway and with a theme. I don't consider a theme a "redesigned" UI, but that's a personal opinion.
I was hoping Apple was going to be more competitive and they weren't. I do not regret one bit buying my GS4, as Apple didn't do anything today that would make me want to switch.
29. Rager722 (Posts: 164; Member since: 30 Jan 2013)
iOS 7 is basically Android's features, Windows Phone similar design and Blackberry's flow.
62. Trex95 (Posts: 547; Member since: 03 Mar 2013)
At least it does works floss without 8 core.
30. beillax (Posts: 23; Member since: 03 Aug 2011)
I think that iOS 7 is a really nice OS. I was expecting a little more, but I think that Apple's new OS is very clean and very fresh. Sure, they took some things from Android and Windows Phone, but companies do this all the time. I would have liked to see some type of widget app or something but again I'm perfectly fine with this OS. However, if the iPhone 5s or 6 or whatever is the same exact phone as the iPhone 5 (which I'm anticipating) than I might look more into owning an Android phone. But, until than I will enjoy the iOS 7 beta on my iPhone 5. Also, I can not wait for the iTunes Radio!
31. huzle19 (Posts: 11; Member since: 10 Jun 2013)
Really everything is still d same. truth is it needed some decoration n they did, thats perfect.
39. yougotkilled1 (Posts: 167; Member since: 27 Apr 2011)
iOS7 is a great redesign, but I believe apple came too late to the game when it came to redesigning the OS. I feel like apple decided to wait and see what android had to offer when ICS and jellybean were first released and took some ideas from android to redesign their own OS. It's a nice looking OS, but it's nothing we haven't really seen on android.
40. KingKurogiii (Posts: 5620; Member since: 23 Oct 2011)
really the only UI's that look anywhere near as good as this is Stock Android, Sense 5 and WP8.
49. roldefol (Posts: 2971; Member since: 28 Jan 2011)
So, pretty much my #1, 2, and 3 choices. :)
66. KingKurogiii (Posts: 5620; Member since: 23 Oct 2011)
haha yeah, good choices on your part. xD
i'm really digging having Sense 5 on my DNA.
