Haven't other carriers had this already? Anyways, welcome to the Skype world, VZWers

Carriers never backed any voip services. Some restricted the use of voip services. This is the first carrier backed voip service.

Could VZW use this to try and get the iPhone? One of the knocks on VZW is the CDMA and how it isn't used much outside the USA. With being able to use Skype on a VZW iPhone people could make calls outside the USA right? I know this is a longshot, a real lonnnnnnnnngshot, but it couldn't hurt Verizon's quest to get the iPhone..

Wrong... Think long term. VZW will have 32 major markets with LTE THIS year, with serious coverage bi middkle of next year. CDMA isn't even a talking point anymore and seriously, unless the come out with some AMAZING new innovations in the next version, why the hell does everyone care about the I-phone

According to Verizon's LTE Innovation Center they said CDMA will be used for "years to come" and that it isn't going anywhere. I e-mailed them asking about CDMA a few weeks back. It also seems from what is being posted online that Verizon will mostly be using LTE for data this year and probably for at least the first half of next year. I don't dispute what you are saying. LTE is the future and the iPhone on LTE for Verizon would be sweet. I think people care about the iPhone because it's one of (if not the) most popular smartphone. I am big on choice and as a consumer I think it should be open for all networks so the consumer has the real choice.

Kappy it will be 4G LTE in Oct and CDMA will be on the backside for backup like in rural areas but in all major cities look out baby and regardless it's on record as saying AT&T is a year and a half behind us for 4G coverage
