Display shows room made for Motorola DROID Bionic; handset is "Coming Soon"

A new display housing for Verizon stores shows a space just waiting for a 4.3 inch handset like, say, the Motorola DROID Bionic; no matter which model is going to fit into the display, all signs literally point to it "Coming Soon"...

I have the Thunderbolt currently but am really contemplating getting this device. I just hope Motorola has kept their dirty blur off it as much as possible. Im definitely partial to sense ui but this Tbolt struggles.

Go Launcher Ex fixes the Blur skins on my new Droid 3 & now I like it :)

I've been using the Original Droid for the past 2-3 years and it's a great phone. IPS panel, PowerVR, and CortexA8. Using CM7, SetCPU and while it's not as fast as the newest phones, it holds its own for its age. It's well built and definitely one of the best from Motorola (most of the newer ones are locked down hard). I'm due for an upgrade but I'm waiting for the Galaxy S2 as it has excellent hardware and is very open to mods (supercurio is awesome), so hopefully it will support Verizon's 4G because that would make it the phone to beat.

Sorry, Bionic. You're arriving too late. Although Verizon would have charged too much for me to afford anyway. :(

Wow, you're writers are terrible.

And you're a terrible grammar typer. It's "Your writers are terrible", not "You're writers are terrible"

..a terrible grammar typer? your point is valid but you shouldn't talk after saying that.

Sniggly I am highly disappointed that you left the Motorola tribe and joined the HTC squad... what gives?

Cost and timing. I had until August 1st to get a new phone. T-mobile was affordable and they have coverage. And there are no high end Motorola phones on T-Mobile. :(

gasp! you should've gotten the G2x! o:

dont forget the HTC sensation and MYtouch4G slide. :)
13. Thump3rDX17 (Posts: 2160; Member since: 10 May 2010)
both fine phones but now that the G2x is getting Gingerbread nothing will be able to keep up with it in terms of speed except for the GSII. ;]
15. Sniggly (Posts: 7305; Member since: 05 Dec 2009)
The phone I got is the Sensation. I didn't get the G2X because the reps say the phone has issues, and I like HTC better anyway.
I just learned that there's no coverage in a critical area. So now it's probably bye bye to T-Mobile and hello to AT&T or staying with Verizon and getting the Bionic on upgrade.
If I go with AT&T I'll be getting the ATRIX.

the issues should be resolved with the Gingerbread update that just went live yesterday i think.
the Atrix won't be so different than the Droid Bionic i suppose especially after it gets Gingerbread.

Gonna be a slight price jump from the Atrix to the Bionic, the cheapskate in me yells....
Too bad about the coverage on T-Mobile. Find it hard to believe that St. Louis doesn't have great coverage on all the networks. I just borrowed a Sprint phone from someone I know, to try out the reception in my area. With my discount, Sprint would have saved us tons of cash. But, wow. Just horrid indoor coverage. In the plant I work in, I could make a call, here the ringing, walk in a circle and drop the signal in mid-step. Really a let down. So I do feel your pain.

The city itself has okay coverage, but my friends (who went on the same plan as me and dictate which carrier we go to) have a second house out at a resort where t-mobile is supposed to have good coverage, but in reality has none at all.
And now I have a chance to pick up the Atrix for 75 bucks. You can't beat that with a stick. :)

Yea.. thats my thumbs down. Now i dont have a Moto guy to make "Miz" stfu hahaha
16. Sniggly (Posts: 7305; Member since: 05 Dec 2009)
I'm still a Moto guy, man. But Miz hates Android overall anyway. :P

I'm so pleased to here that sniggly. Besides we'll both end up with ICS probably anyways.
17. DroidGod (Posts: 48; Member since: 09 Jul 2011)
Does he? I wouldnt of guessed that hahaha. Thump3r which Moto do you have? Whats your opinion on the Bionic? Honestly?
21. Thump3rDX17 (Posts: 2160; Member since: 10 May 2010)
my dad and i have the Droid X and 2 right now but our Droid 3 and X2 will be here Tuesday. i'll be using the Droid 3 but my dad is just going to return the X2 and get the Bionic when it comes out which i think will be a worthy upgrade considering it has LTE and a Dual-Core processor so there should be no trade off except for passing up the GSII (Function) for it's smooth operation and the impact it's abilities will have on the battery life which may or may not be an issue with this phone, it's probably the main concern Moto had with the phone so it'll be interesting to see what they've done to try to fix it.

Boo Ya! Thunderbolt!

Here's my issue with Motorola phones. It's not Blur or anything like that at all actually. It's how narrow and oversized their phones are. You put the Droid X and the Samsung Infuse together and the Infuse is actually shorter and much wider(way better typing, webpage viewing, and overall video watching experience.) And the Infuse has a 4.5 inch display compared to the 4.3 on the Droid X and again...it's shorter. The Droid X has too much wasted space and the screens are always too narrow.
The viewing experience on phones like the Thunderbolt, Infuse, and Droid Charge for example are much better because of the wider screens.
I feared that Motorola would once again drop the ball on their display size with the Bionic. It appears the Bionic will be the Droid X2 with LTE and MAYBE 1GB of RAM. Don't get me wrong, it's not going to be a bad phone. But I will go for the SGS2 because of the better display and faster processor.

However, the aspect ratio on the DROID X makes for better widescreen viewing, and wider phones like the Evo just don't fit as well into my hand. On the other hand, 16:9 phones like the X and Sensation fit comfortably. Ergonomics may be their reasoning here.
26. Thump3rDX17 (Posts: 2160; Member since: 10 May 2010)
yeah, i agree with Sniggly on this one a more extreme comparison would be between a Motorola XOOM or Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 vs. an iPad 2. doing things in different orientations doesn't make for much difference on the 4:3 aspect ratio of the iPad but on a 16:9 ratio it grants you more versatility, for instance when you're watching a movie you get the true widescreen effect in landscape and in portrait you have a taller and narrower screen for when you're trying to find something on a web page or you have a list to look at. i know it's not as extreme with phones but some added advantages to 16:9 on a phone is a wider landscape on-screen keyboard which some people prefer and then like Sniggly says for Ergonomics as well and then of course everything else i mentioned on a smaller scale.

What a great option. Verizon and Motorola are really dependable for one game-changer a year. Hope Bionic keeps that streak alive.

what about the motorola photon from sprint?
32. Thump3rDX17 (Posts: 2160; Member since: 10 May 2010)
i think it's up for pre-order in some places if you want one. o:
33. 14tharoad (Posts: 6; Member since: 23 Jul 2011)
i've waited on the bionic long enough, and still no official word on it's release only speculation,at least the motorola photon has a release date and from what i've heard about this phone it's suppose to have the same features as the bionic anyway..
34. Thump3rDX17 (Posts: 2160; Member since: 10 May 2010)
yeah, pretty much, only a matter of LTE vs. WiMAX. i'm pretty sure the Bionic will come out the 4th though. there's been a LOT of news surrounding it the past week even for the Bionic.
