Did LG just pull a Samsung? LG Optimus G specs review and comparison vs Samsung Galaxy S III vs HTC One X
0. phoneArena posted on 18 Sep 2012, 02:10
If LG has managed to finally escape the stigmata of subpar cameras and wimpy loudspeakers of its flagship handsets with the Optimus G, it has every chance to turn what is already the best-spec'd Android phone on paper, into a truly formidable device that others, including Samsung, will have to look up to this holiday season...

The galaxy s3 is the winner when it come to its sexy design :-)
10. thebest posted on 28 Aug 2012, 07:32 45
actually, the samsung galaxy s3 doesn't look as good as the htc one x, the new optimus G also looks good and simple, the material also looks good, the build quality looks better than the galaxy s3 build quality
if i am asked to choose any one of the 3 phones, i would choose the galaxy s3, but htc one x is the winner when it comes to sexy design
17. noriya posted on 28 Aug 2012, 07:48 13
i don't think gs3 had a sexy design,i think it like alien design.

LG Optimus G phone of the year 2012.it straight away beats Samsung galaxy s3 & HTC one X in specs& perfomance.i don't think people will sacrifice specs and performance for design.

The design of this smartphone is far better than Galaxy S3
55. kartik4u98 posted on 28 Aug 2012, 08:54 4
why do you think so? After handling s3 I loved the overall feel and look of the smartphone..
P.s- I do agree that I hated the design when saw on the computer..

Is it time for a "drop test"? against iPhone, HTC X, Moto Razr, and Galaxy S3.

It looks like a larger, more modern Prada...
...oh wait...

but i think galaxy has a wrost design among all . if i want round corner then we have htc one x and for sharp corner we have Optimus G. and i luv its design.
Galaxy S3 -- Bulky design , designed for human but not from the earth
:D

Well I'd have to disagree, although I can see how it is a chicks design :)
I kinda like this this LG phone, but to be honest that might just be me being in love with the 320 ^_^;

Xiaomi will obviously use the same tactics as early Japanese and Korean companies: use domestic market to make quantity and make profits in developed market.

and I still won't buy it until JB isn't released. i don't care if they announce it, i want it to come!
51. remixfa posted on 28 Aug 2012, 08:44 4
Im not going to buy it unless they promise unlocked bootloaders, leaked updates, and fast official update times. LG has possibly the worst update record of all major Android manufacturers.
62. bobfreking55 posted on 28 Aug 2012, 09:21 2
that is why i want a nexus, or a flagship phone.
sgs line gets updated... sensation, desire and one x gets updates but are slow... lg: crap.

im still steamed that my stock android "with google" Tegra2 tablet has never seen anything past 3.1 officially. Thats just ridiculous.. ITS STOCK CODE!! lol.
86. Hunt3rj2 posted on 28 Aug 2012, 15:33 0
....No one promises leaked updates.
There is such thing as public tester programs like HTC Elevate where a few get early access to RUUs and the like, but usually leaks are hard to come by.
88. remixfa posted on 28 Aug 2012, 16:32 1
samsung has a website they leak all their updates to.www.samsungfirmwares.com.
They let XDA test them :)
90. Hunt3rj2 posted on 28 Aug 2012, 17:28 0
That's not an official Samsung site, and that's a parked domain with nothing on it.
Once again, no OEM has official leaks. That's why they're called leaks. HTC has it's Elevate program, Motorola has their soak tests, Samsung probably has internal testing. More likely than not, they all overlook the leaking of firmware to dev communities as long as nothing meant to stay secret for good reason is leaked.
Leaks happen because there is a big enough community that there are liasons that can get in touch with people on the inside to get early access.
94. remixfa posted on 28 Aug 2012, 21:52 1
i didnt say it was an official samsung site.
Apparently they had a name change. Here is the active site.
http://www.samfirmware.com/
It is a repository for all sorts of unreleased firmware direct from samsung. Yes, they do their internal testing, but they also release it to the wild. Didnt you ever wonder where all that crazy development for samsung phones came from? There is all sorts of test roms released by samsung to the community. It was the communities response and their ability to make sammy's software better that convinced Sammy to hire people direct from XDA and Cyanogenmod to work on their software... including Steve Klondik.. aka Cyanogen himself.
you speak in finalities without proof. There is no such thing as "no OEM does X". Unless you have direct proof, you shouldnt think that way. Samsung IS VERY VERY modder friendly. That has been a large reason for their success while others like HTC who USED to be very modder friendly closed the doors. They are all reopening their doors slowly but surely to compete with samsung for Modder love... which they've had the bulk of for a while.
99. Hunt3rj2 posted on 29 Aug 2012, 00:16 0
Yes, and xda has all sorts of unreleased firmware direct from HTC. The HTC One X had at least the 1.27 leak, 2.05, 2.15, and an early release of the 2.17 firmwares. What's your point?
No, you shouldn't speak in finalities without proof, because no company has the official policy of leaking internal firmware being tested. You are claiming that it is for some OEMs. Unless you can produce proof that says OEMs do, your argument is invalid. Samsung didn't get a dev community because they leaked firmware, it's because they kept unlocked bootloaders out of the box. It is a far more reasonable statement to say that the reason why firmware gets leaked is because there is such a big dev community. More devs means more people that can try to communicate with people inside the company, and gain access to firmware meant exclusively for internal use.
101. remixfa posted on 29 Aug 2012, 06:19 1
they are not unlocked of the box.. they are just incredibly easy to unlock.
I've been using a samsung phone for over 2 years now.. trust me, they leaked the crap out of their updates on purpose to make the loudest complainers happy when the SGS1 wasnt getting basic updates.. all of a sudden the flood gates opened and there was a new "leaked" rom from Samsung nearly every week or 2 for a long time for the SGS1. Now they do it for pretty much every major phone and minor phone they have. Your talking 4 firmware updates.. im talking hundreds. Heck there have been 10 in the last few months just for the SGS1 which hasnt seen an "official" update since Android 2.2 over a year ago and is over 2 years old now. The SGS3 has had dozens already this month. Heck, unofficially its had 4.1 for a good bit now. The SGS2 has had unofficial 4.04 for quite some time, and the SGS1 got unofficial 2.3.6 upgrades ages ago.
Samsung has an unofficial policy of leaking their stuff out to the community, and has for quite some time. Its a way of free advertising by word of mouth. ROMs are made off this constant influx of releases which keeps the ever growing communities in XDA quite happy and talkative. Some test roms are wonderful, and some are not. They all have slight tweaks from the previous leak.
Anyways, I think your just continually trying to split hairs with me to argue for no reason. You keep trying to tell me how things are... without any proof. I'm telling you what I see and have found, with proof.
104. Hunt3rj2 posted on 29 Aug 2012, 20:37 0
Uh, I managed to flash a Galaxy S1 and S2 without ever jumping through anything that required unlocking a bootloader. There's a flashcounter but that's it.
Then that's great, but that's not an official testing program. More likely than not, it's Samsung turning a blind eye to someone who is leaking test releases on the inside.
111. remixfa posted on 30 Aug 2012, 10:18 1
you really are just trying to argue just to argue arent you? good lord.
the galaxy series uses a 1 click root/unroot script to get root access. That is not the same as flashing roms.

Specs are great but the design is not interesting... if put it side by side with galaxy s3 and one x, people may ask what brand is this??
Samsung and htc has already created beautiful design as well as sony, but lg, no offense, looks like a notepad.
20. MeoCao (unregistered) posted on 28 Aug 2012, 07:56 4
Design is top notch, materials look premium. polarized glass should be stunning but a little heavy though.
41. -box- posted on 28 Aug 2012, 08:24 1
Tell them it's the same company that makes the Prada phone and has kept pretty consistent design language for the last 5 years or so
7. MeoCao (unregistered) posted on 28 Aug 2012, 07:29 8
Can there be a comparison? It's a blowout by LG.
This phone will also put new iPhone to shame.

49. MeoCao (unregistered) posted on 28 Aug 2012, 08:42 0
Well, this is unexpected from LG, early samples of the phone were very disappointing.
may be SS troubles and this super phone will change the balance of smart phone power.
13. remixfa posted on 28 Aug 2012, 07:39 4
On paper it sounds awesome. Not a big fan of the huge amount glass filling the thing. That screams me-too iphone 4... and we all know how horrid the drop quality was on that thing.. now imagine an even bigger all glass phone being dropped. I was hoping that design would die with the i4s.
Other than that, it looks nice, looks great on paper, and has potential. Have to wait for a commercial release review/benchmark for final decisions though. Definitely has the power to put LG back on the map if its done right.
16. remixfa posted on 28 Aug 2012, 07:40 4
also, since its a minimalist rounded rectangle with a centered screen, its apparently going to be liable for $30-40 a handset "protection money" to Apple lest they be sued as well.
27. TylerGrunter posted on 28 Aug 2012, 08:05 4
I agree with all except with one thing: LG won't be liable for having a "rectagle with round corners, big bezels up and donw and metallic strips on the side" design.

Remerber?
52. remixfa posted on 28 Aug 2012, 08:45 2
ha,
that prior art defense didnt work for samsung. Just because thats an LG phone do u think that Apple wont try to extort them?? According to Apple, they probably think they invented LG.. heck, they probably have a paper napkin drawing of LG's head quarters patented just in case.
87. Hunt3rj2 posted on 28 Aug 2012, 15:35 0
There's a pretty obvious plastic ring that sets the glass below the plastic, so on flat surfaces the glass doesn't touch the surface.
Should greatly help drop protection compared to GS3 and One X which have protruding glass.
18. Angkor posted on 28 Aug 2012, 07:51 1
It is look like iPhone rectangular and round edge, Apple is waiting until it hit the market and Apple will file lawsuits on LG with in-cell display technology is an Apple patent.
46. -box- posted on 28 Aug 2012, 08:31 2
LG has a strong prior art defense though with its own original Prada, as well as successive devices since.
If apple sued all its hardware partners, I would hope they wouldn't renew their contracts with them, and soon no one would want to deal with them. "I'd love to take your money, but I won't because I'd later be sued to get it all - or more - back after you decided to bully the world courts into thinking you're original and special"
97. jroc74 posted on 28 Aug 2012, 23:27 0
I gave this a thumbs up cuz Apple might really be that insane to try to sue LG...
I would LOVE to see that lawsuit tho....please Apple sue LG for their phone...please....
19. sadaff posted on 28 Aug 2012, 07:51 0
I so badly wanna buy this but what matters to me is will LG support it properly because what they are doing with 2x and black etc. then having huge specs will be of no use then if the company will keep you outdated!!
