Wow that is a LOT of Different Carriers for Europe, 50 to 70?! Dannnngg!

3. biggles posted on 15 Oct 2009, 10:40

I don't know why people always do this. Just because they're comparable in population and land area does not mean it's valid to compare a continent to a country. It's viable for each country to support a handful of operators, and when you consider the countries that make up Europe, 50-70 across the continent isn't really a lot.

so true, people forgetting europe isnt like the US.

DUH..this report is 2 months old..1st report stated the FCC stated it would be illegal for any non USA carrier to acquire ANY other cellphone company..tmo is from Germany..att--sprint--vzw are n. american..did not one realize this!?

8. videobandit posted on 15 Oct 2009, 12:59

Ummm ... almost correct. vzw is a venture between verizon communications and vodafone which is a british company. And vzw acquired alltel recently. How does that figure?

9. PL007 posted on 15 Oct 2009, 14:04

I have to agree with videobandit. How is it that Vodafone can own 45% of Verizon Wireless but DT can't own more than 20% of T-Mobile USA? Does not make sense. And you are going to tell me if NTT or Telefonica wanted to buy a US company and invest heavily in the US market, the FCC would reject the buy?

not to mention the governement subsides the network which is why gsm is so prevalant there. government owns the bandwidth, where as here the carrier owns the bandwidth free market economy

T-Mobile do not have to buy Sprint to become #3 carrier, all T-Mobile needed to do is to improve the coverage in all areas like Verizon and best customer services. Sprint customers will run to T-Mobile for GSM phones it is nice to have SIM card personal data handy you don't have to struggle every time to change a new phone.

11. DonLouie posted on 15 Oct 2009, 20:57

That is a misconception that it's a struggle to change phones on CDMA, Sprint subs can do it online but not sure if vzw subs can as easily

12. jrcrow79 posted on 16 Oct 2009, 00:30

FCC also stated a foreign cellphone company meaning euro to US CANNOT own more than 20% of the US company..vodophone probably is a REAL company like att, sprint, Verizon..is this correct?..tmo is satellite based and HQ is in Frankfurt
