Despite the Platinum name, Archos launches two Android smartphones that are for the budget minded
Introduced last month, Archos has launched two Android smartphones that make up its new Platinum series. The Archos 45c Platinum and the Archos 50b Platinum might sound like top-shelf models, but the truth is that both are budget priced handsets powered by the same quad-core processor. Archos says that the CPU "should handle the most demanding tasks."

The Archos 45c Platinum features a 4.5 inch screen with a resolution of 480 x 854. The handset is driven by a quad-core 1.3GHz MediaTek MT6582 CPU. 512MB of RAM is on board, along with 4GB of native storage. A 64GB capacity microSD slot is included. The phone has a 5MP rear-facing camera, and a 2MP camera adorns the front of the device. A 1700mAh battery powers the unit and Android 4.4.2 is pre-installed. You can swap out the back cover depending on how you feel, using three interchangeable covers in blue, black and pink, that come out of the box. The Archos 45c Platinum brings you 3G, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity.

The Archos 50b Platinum is equipped with a 5 inch screen offering a resolution of 540 x 960. A quad-core 1.3GHz MediaTek 6582 processor is under the hood. 512MB of RAM is inside, along with 4GB of native storage. Those needing additional memory can employ the 64GB capacity microSD slot. The back and front-facing cameras weigh in at 8MP and 2MP, respectively. A 1900mAh cell keeps the gerbils spinning on the wheel. This model supports dual SIM cards, and has a see-through protective case that is included right out of the box. The Archos 50b also comes with interchangeable black, pink and blue rear covers that you can change as quickly as you change your mood. With 3G, Wi-Fi and  Bluetooth connectivity, this phone will set you back $119.

Looking for an entry-level handset at a budget price? You  might find yourself looking at one of these two new handsets from Archos.
