Despite disabling the feature, T-Mobile shows you how to setup Wi-Fi Calling on the Google Nexus 4

T-Mobile earlier announced that while it would offer the Google Nexus 4 along with the Google Play Store, its version of the latest Nexus phone would not support T-Mobile's Wi-Fi calling which allows users to save minutes by placing calls over a Wi-Fi signal...

HSPA is pretty much available all over the world.... Blame Sprint and Verizon as to why you're not getting the N4 at launch. It only took them months to update to Jellybean.
Oh and seventh comment. Wooooo-hooooo!

I read that the WIFI technology used in Nexus 4 is not compatible with Tmo wifi calling.
This I find credible as I can't see why TMo should disable the feature.

It's actually a software issue and nothing to do with the WiFi technology used (that is all standard). WiFi calling requires certain changes to the innerworkings of the Android software (making it so just installing an app is inadequate to have WiFi calling functionality). This is usually done by the company Kineto on a per phone basis for T-Mobile. In this case, such software changes have not been made to Android installed on the Nexus 4 to allow WiFi calling compatibility. That isn't to say, however, that it could never come or someone could try and port drivers from a different android device. Porting software from a different device, however, has proven difficult for other devices that don't have a similar spec'd device that does support WiFi calling.

"Minutes using the Wi-Fi calling feature are counted as cellular minutes on your bill."
Not exactly right, Wifi calling counts towards your plan minutes only if you don't have the free wifi calling feature applied to your service. (We always make a point of adding it to new lines of service.) With the feature applied you can make unlimited domestic calls at no cost and without burning your plan minutes. And did I mention it's free?
Call TMO customer care to add this feature.

It's been edited. T-Mobile's site now says that Wi-Fi Calling is not supported.
Other than that, I think that this issue is being presented the wrong way. As I understood it, Wi-Fi Calling is not available because it requires a T-Mobile modification to work. As this is a Nexus, that isn't possible. There's a chance that someone might build a ROM with Wi-Fi Calling support, though.

This is going to sound nit-picky, but in the previous article you cited, it says nothing about T-Mobile being the party responsible for no WiFi calling, and also, none of the other Nexus devices supported it either. So how is this T-Mo's fault?

Wifi calling is charged by the carrier (as cellular minutes)? This is ridiculous!
