This witness is a joke, just like this sham of trial, so far.
87. jroc74 (Posts: 5537; Member since: 30 Dec 2010)
Wow...I didnt know you could pay ppl to testify ....for you.
Is this even legal?

I think they know more about it than you do.

Pay me lots of money and ill tell you how great Apple is too.

After you invented some 70 designs, then let's talk.
52. Aeires (unregistered)
Anyone know what the 70 designs are for?
53. TortillaSlap (Posts: 43; Member since: 05 Aug 2012)
Ardent, the man IN COURT UNDER OATH said he NEVER once designed a Smartphone. His phone "expertise" is limited to flip phones.
He also told the jury that "Every design element of the phone counts", then after samsung grilled him piece by piece about the designs... from bezels to speaker placement, size of screen, differences in thickness, materials used, # of buttons, ect.. he said "those dont count, just the over all design".
Ok, well once you take out all the individual design elements.. whats left? A black rectangle.
People need to read the actual trial transcripts instead of just assuming.
88. jroc74 (Posts: 5537; Member since: 30 Dec 2010)
And....what does that have to do with him being paid by Apple to testify?
A plane ticket cost $75,000?
3. Savage (unregistered)
75,000 $ just to say Samsung Galaxy looks like an iPhone? And he does say Apple paid him!
Are they allowed to do that? Kinda looks shady.

PA I'm disappointed you've posted this troll bait. What do you expects get in the comments here?
6. RORYREVOLUTION (Posts: 3072; Member since: 12 Jan 2010)
If its true and released information to the public they have every right to post whatever kind of article they want.
7. p0rkguy (Posts: 684; Member since: 23 Nov 2010)
taco50 I'm disappointed you've decided to post in here. You should be ashamed of yourself.
8. wendygarett (unregistered)
We hope you are the expert one who received this big sum since you are the die hard fanboy...
Btw, here a tissue for you :)
10. p0rkguy (Posts: 684; Member since: 23 Nov 2010)
No, it's more like he's jealous he hasn't received any after all he has preached.
Keep preaching taco, Apple might actually cover your loss for purchasing their products.
9. Savage (unregistered)
So you're saying PA shouldn't post when Apple looks bad?
Btw, I'm interested to see what you have to say defending Apple this time.
31. joaolx (Posts: 364; Member since: 16 Aug 2011)
Getting paid to lie is one thing but when one thing is true to most eyes than who cares if he was paid. I don't care because both phones are equal in many aspects. Call me a fanboy but I like Apple and Samsung a lot and both companies made mistakes.

This is actually standard procedure to pay an expert witness
80. doublehammer (Posts: 75; Member since: 07 Aug 2012)
just ask today's expert witness who got paid 80k so far to take the stand for Apple.
Just for easy math, thats $160k for 2 days and 2 witnesses. That is NOT standard procedure for most cases.. and we are just getting stared.
I'll wager that by the time were done the apple witnesses will add up to AT LEAST a million in "paid testimony".
yup.. totally unbiased.
85. gwuhua1984 (Posts: 1237; Member since: 06 Mar 2012)
Yes it is a standard procedure and the police actually does it all the time. However, the question asked was, how much have you been paid "so far". There's a limit to how much a witness get paid during a trial and whether or not it is reasonable. Is the expert witness going to be paid more than reasonable? If that's the case, the witness's words has a high possibility of being biased testimony. You're not wrong regarding it being a standard procedure, but there's more to it to just being a standard/normal procedure.
101. doublehammer (Posts: 75; Member since: 07 Aug 2012)
And I doubt Samsungs "experts" are going to be getting anywhere near as much, otherwise they wouldnt be slamming every "apple expert" with the question knowing they will get the same line back when its Apple's turn to grind samsung's "experts".,
29. SGSatlantis (Posts: 207; Member since: 20 Jul 2011)
And you decided to troll first! Unbelievable.
69. AppleWho (banned) (Posts: 57; Member since: 06 Aug 2012)
well, you have 35+ negatives so far - troll answers his own question.
90. jroc74 (Posts: 5537; Member since: 30 Dec 2010)
Disappointed cuz it shows Apple in a bad, shady light?
Figures you would be disappointed...
108. dragonscourgex (Posts: 307; Member since: 16 Jan 2012)
PA i'm disappointed you still let taco50 have a account here. He never brings anything useful to a topic.
11. wendygarett (unregistered)
Please be honest... Mr expert... It should be 75millions :D
12. ishfaq.mehraj (Posts: 10; Member since: 30 Jul 2012)
ooo good way to make moey... i am also ready to give testimony against samsung... :-)
13. AppleConspiracy (Posts: 637; Member since: 18 Oct 2011)
This guy may not be an expert.
Because you don't need an expert to tell you that Samsung copied Apple.
39. tedkord (Posts: 7369; Member since: 17 Jun 2009)
I'd say he's at least $75,000 biased. For six figures (which this guy will ultimately get paid), I'll get on the stand and day Apple invented water.
18. Savage (unregistered)
Exactly! Anyone can say the first Galaxy looked a lot like iPhone. But why should Apple have to pay him? This makes Apple look guilty.
14. B3BLW29 (Posts: 238; Member since: 02 Mar 2012)
75k is not even loose change for Apple... :P
Based on his testimony any thing that is rectangular has infringed upon Apple's patent..
Looks like pops was high on Moonshine :D
16. Mxyzptlk (Posts: 6779; Member since: 21 Apr 2012)
PA, I don't find the tone of this article to be neutral at all. I'd say it seems to me that the author is trying to subtly throw Apple under the bus because of the witness.
22. roscuthiii (Posts: 1949; Member since: 18 Jul 2010)
But you had no problem with the previous article in which the expert witness made his copying claims?
Sorry, it doesn't work that way. If the guy's testimony is pertinent enough to be newsworthy, then who and what he is is also just as pertinent. You just didn't like the article because this information could turn out to be a detriment to Apple's case.
30. protozeloz (Posts: 5387; Member since: 16 Sep 2010)
hahahahah Good one, I think Victor would be happy to see someone didn't call him and apple fanboy
33. willard12 (Posts: 1192; Member since: 04 Jul 2012)
Maybe the last article is the real reason you don't like this article.
"Mxyzptlk: Nothing more than a biased claim. You can't prove anything about the witness being paid."
36. matrix_neo (Posts: 329; Member since: 03 Nov 2011)
Im about to write also his previous comment but you write it first but it's ok:-). Its very big embarrassement for him. Almost all ísheep here commenting without thinking it first.
SHAME ON YOU!!! Mxyzptlk

Can't accept the truth? These are facts.
19. Berzerk000 (Posts: 4184; Member since: 26 Jun 2011)
Wow, I'm actually surprised. Literally, I never though Apple would pay its witnesses to testify, especially a designer. I know Samsung is guilty for making their Galaxy S look similar to the iPhone, but paying someone to testify makes it look like a bribe. But, question, is this really a bribe? Or is it just a "Thanks for defending our case" bonus?
40. tedkord (Posts: 7369; Member since: 17 Jun 2009)
Most expert witnesses in these types of trials are paid to testify. I'd imagine Samsung will have some paid witnesses, too. It does leave a taint on their testimony, but these types of folks aren't going to donate their time.
20. TheRetroReplay (Posts: 253; Member since: 20 Mar 2012)
By this guy's logic, he said that anything that's a black rectangle is infringing on Apple's design. And Apple paying him $75,000 so far and continuing to pay him for his opinion, sounds really shady.
21. d_striders (Posts: 7; Member since: 06 Aug 2012)
he is an expert professor, but in which field? what is the exact quality that makes him an expert witness? a professor whos website is still under construction doesnt look like much of an expert
23. OakleyDoakely (Posts: 3; Member since: 07 Aug 2012)
For a company that sold:
17 million iPads at 400-800 dollars,
37 million iPhones (3Gs -> 4s) at 200-900+ dollars
about 4-5 million macbooks going at 1k-5k
purchases of apple software programs/services ie (iCloud, Final Cut, Logic Studio)
Plus 30% of the profits made from their iTunes stores apps/books/music.
I think it's safe to say $75,000 is probably chump change to Apple.
I would say that this professor is probably going to get paid a lot more after this trial than $75,000.
I have a strong doubt that apple is really feeling the alleged $2.5 billion missing in sales due to the Samsung Galaxy devices.
26. andro. (Posts: 1990; Member since: 16 Sep 2011)
Another day another ridiculous fact about serious wrong doings from dodegy apple again. The court case is getting pretty widespread with the general public through word of mouth and I've seen more and more customers even comment that apple'just try to sue everyone'. The result is people turning away from them and android market share massively rising everywhere except perhaps the US,these stupid court cases are doing apple more harm than good.
42. Aeires (unregistered)
Wonder how many people are seeing Apple gets 77% of mobile profits, at their expense? It's going to end eventually, probably with the bottom dropping out as people get fed up with the BS Apple keeps spewing.
48. ardent1 (Posts: 2000; Member since: 16 Apr 2011)
Being unctuous again?
Get ready for ZTE or Huawei to copy Samsung before people stop buying the iPhone in droves.
50. Aeires (unregistered)
Ardent, I forgot to say thanks on your last comment to me, I was laughing for days. Unctuous, what a hoot. Especially when it came from someone as pompous as yourself.
57. taco50 (banned) (Posts: 5506; Member since: 08 Oct 2009)
This isn't a wrongdoing as paying an expert witness is standard procedure. Samsung will have paid witnesses as well.
I like how you throw in bogus "personal experiences" which can't be verified.
72. tedkord (Posts: 7369; Member since: 17 Jun 2009)
This coming from the guy who has, "played around with a Galaxy S3, and it was laggy.“
94. aikonix (Posts: 59; Member since: 08 Apr 2012)
Taco.... standard procedures.... cmon dude, if you call out a witness, and the court orders you to be there, thats NOT BEING PAID. Apple did NOT have to pay that guy, and let alone, did NOT have to pay him $75 grand. $75 grand is a LOT of money and as easily as it is for ANYONE to say what he said... Do you not get it?? Your simple fight through-out this whole comment page was "its standard procedure..." .. "its standard...." "yada yada" NO.. its NOT Taco, get that through ur no brain of yours!! Court ordered appearances require to be shown or must has a VERY good reason on why your not showing up and that reason is to the court not the defendant/plaintiff.
$75 grand my a$$.... wish i could use that

I am going to say this: it didn't take a genius to see where the market was headed in terms of cell phone design -- especially if your job was to keep up on design trends. With the rising popularity of Windows Phones at the time, the icon based BlackBerry, touchscreen based Nokia phones, and the design of GPS/TV Screens/PDAs did Apple somehow think it was the only company going to use the simple touch screen in middle/black bezel/silver border look with a cell phone? Are we to believe that LG and Apple came up with nearly the same exact design but Samsung couldn't? That other products that came out before that look remarkably similar to the iPhone couldn't be used as design precursors?
47. ardent1 (Posts: 2000; Member since: 16 Apr 2011)
You keep forgetting, Apple's design came out with world's best mobile OS. Prada's OS was garbage, which goes to show you can't judge a book by it's covers or a cell phone by it's shell.
51. Aeires (unregistered)
Best OS by whose estimation? Yours?

Samsung's CEO said the iPhone is like heaven and his phones like earth.
67. willard12 (Posts: 1192; Member since: 04 Jul 2012)
Apple's CEO said we've been shameless about stealing good ideas.
74. tedkord (Posts: 7369; Member since: 17 Jun 2009)
He said that about a WinMo phone from 2008, the Omnia.
