Demand for the Apple iPhone 5 is down, but handset still rules

0. phoneArena posted on 15 Jan 2013, 16:43

ChangeWave has released its quarterly smartphone report and it showed how demand for the Apple iPhone 5 and the Samsung Galaxy S III peaked right about the time that each handset was released; for example, a whopping 71% of those polled said that they were planning on purchasing Apple's iconic smartphone within 90 days after being asked...

I'm excited to see how the Galaxy s4 will do with sales this year, Apple really needs to step it up with iOS 7. Hardware is not so important at the moment as the software experience.

3. shamataa posted on 15 Jan 2013, 17:05 3

I highly doubt it will sell more than that or note 3 just because im not seeing anything from them at all

45. PhoneLuver posted on 16 Jan 2013, 01:40

The reason why the iPhone demand is delayed is simply because of the price. In most markets it launches at ridicuous prices ($1000 +) and it takes 4-5 months to become reasonable.

How is the hand set still rules? and people finally realize it's the SAME POS phone year after year pretty soon they will end up like RIM well eventually

6. cncrim posted on 15 Jan 2013, 17:39 7 1

Like RIM? U must be crazy, Apple ios is bore because it is same thing last five year but still very well constructive and still very modern..........

11. androiddownsouth posted on 15 Jan 2013, 17:51 6 2

No offense, but I bet RIM thought that too, right before the bottom fell out......

48. gwuhua1984 posted on 16 Jan 2013, 10:33

That's the same question I asked... How does it rule when not as people want it anymore...?

All seniors realized and getting caught up with new trend of Android having to offer over the globe.

7. chaoticrazor posted on 15 Jan 2013, 17:40 10 5

or wp8.........android isnt the only other choice

12. androiddownsouth posted on 15 Jan 2013, 17:53 6 2

Apple and Google can underestimate WP8 at their own risk. With some time to mature like Android and iOS have had, it could very well threaten them both.

34. cretinick posted on 15 Jan 2013, 20:27 4 1

And Microsoft has all the money they need to stay in The Game of Phones long enough to evolve the Windows Phone and leave consumers interested in experiencing the system.

This capacity for long-term investment is what Nokia did not had for invest in MeeGo...

18. androiddownsouth posted on 15 Jan 2013, 18:34 7 2

The thumbs down on chaoticrazor's comment here is just proof there is a hater of his lurking about. WP8 is a legit smartphone OS. Just an observation.

39. dmakun posted on 15 Jan 2013, 23:06 3

Actually the thumbs down you noticed on chaoticrazor has little to do with the comment itself. Although I didn't thumb him down, I've observed he is particularly critical of android fans on Phonearena & often very quick to shoot them down. He's quite a judgmental fellow and pro anything-but-android. One of the many interesting character's on here really :-)

46. joey_sfb posted on 16 Jan 2013, 02:02

Spot on. If i don like i just don use or wait for it to get better. Been a fanboy limit one own choice. I prefer to use what suit my need rather than blindly follow a brand.

50. chaoticrazor posted on 16 Jan 2013, 18:16

so wrong, i like android i hate android fanboys, look at my comments i never say android is crap. i say its not perfect and that people want choice
but android fanboys scream choice only if it revolves around you guessed it android

so to sum up android fanboys are out of hand on here and yeah i shoot them down

btw im pro-tech, i use what i like and dont put myself in these tragic camps

51. joey_sfb posted on 16 Jan 2013, 20:48

You like to make a lot of assumption.
Within 3 years, i have use nokia symbian check out windows 7 and found their marketplace lacking move on to iOS and was great still i find them repeating same things over and over and their lawsuit also put down my interest. Finally android which i think is better than the rest for the moment. I will move on eventually to some thing better.

I check out the windows 8 store it really lacking so no deal for now. I like to buy tech and currently own 8 mobile devices. Android still my favorite at the moment.

Chaoticrazor, you are a clueless fan boy. That sum it up.

52. dmakun posted on 17 Jan 2013, 06:38

Well your comments do come across like you have some kind of agenda against android most often. My apologies for assuming your displeasure with android fans on this site equates displeasure for the android OS. If I may ask so what OS do you favour of all and why?

I've used android since 2009 and greatly appreciate the development to date. The speed of development is insane and I give credit to Google because despite the introduction of other mobile OS's (which is a very good thing) the promise of the future of android does not seem to stop and this I feel is largely due to the open nature or concept chosen by Google for its development. I'd only consider a OS that's able to offer this because using android does make one feel like a part of something. (I suppose you can dismiss all that I'm saying as the delusion of another fanboy) but unashamedly I sometimes forgive the overly excited viewpoints of some folks who comment on here whether android, IOS, BB, or WP because its funny, informative & entertaining to read user opinion & "their" experiences with "choice" devices & manufacturers.

I not eager to buy M$ after using windows for the past 15 year right from windows 3.1 to windows 7. I also have xbox 360 for the past 4 years. My M$ experience suck as i am charge a premium for mediocre products.

Very happy with Goggle and Android at the moment just glad that open source has finally has a fighting chance against M$ greed.

M$ fanboy and employee are free to love their company, i am happy for the choices both provide.

For a site constantly being accused of bias towards apple, there sure are a lot of insecure android fans on it.

So funny

They think US as whole world

I guess Samsung dominates Korean market over Apple product
So Korean can say Samsung handset still rulls?
Then maybe bunch of US people think it's only in Korea
AM I right?

Please US people and so-called professionals...

The world is so much bigger than you think

10. jan25 posted on 15 Jan 2013, 17:48 3

i think because people start to realize that the iPhone's price is ridiculously high while good or even better alternatives are cheaper. the iPhone is a great phone no doubt and it works great for a lot of people, but it's not the greatest and people are starting to realize that. :)

13. chaoticrazor posted on 15 Jan 2013, 17:58 3 1

whats funny is most who have an iphone dont think its the greatest (there are some that go over the top but thats the same with any phone and os)

22. wendygarett (limited) 3 days ago posted on 15 Jan 2013, 19:04 4 4

I never think my iPhone is greatest :)
I'm not that kind of people who afraid to lose and obsolete...

"and lastly, some good news for Windows Phone 8 users. The latest ChangeWave survey found 54% of those using a device powered by Microsoft's mobile OS to be "Very Satisfied." That compares with 48% of Android users who would say that about Google's open source OS. The leader was iOS with 71% of its users characterizing themselves as "Very Satisfied."

best statement ever :)

16. darac posted on 15 Jan 2013, 18:24 2 1

Wendy, keep in mind that every iOS phone was built and released as a top product of the line.
Android otoh, has a huge array of devices to get that average from.. and big part of it are dirt cheap entry level phones that don't exactly offer a flawless experience.

17. androiddownsouth posted on 15 Jan 2013, 18:29 1

Yes indeed. Beware the $.99 phone and the free after rebate phone lol. Just are not likely to last til that 20 month upgrade date.

19. MrJerry posted on 15 Jan 2013, 18:39 1

Again
Don't give me USAism theory as it is standard

And Im so sure Google OS is available in so many different divices(including cheap phones) whereas iOS and MS mostly flagships

User satisfaction is really high on those android phones of Galaxy Note2, Droid DNA, Xperias, Optimus G etc..
I reckon it's more than 80%

Sometimes Non-educated is better than Shallow-educated

21. wendygarett (limited) 3 days ago posted on 15 Jan 2013, 19:01 2 3

And Im so sure Google OS is available in so many different divices(including cheap phones) whereas iOS and MS mostly flagships

I don't think so, the iPhone has made a boring product with the very tiny screen with no nfc...

USA theory? Yup that's the one I agree... The reason why ios get much satisfaction is because of the services of the US Apple store... I'm very envious for that since I'm not in US I don't have this treatment... By showing the Apple care, you can get the replacement of your phone in no time... Don't you know that?

27. MrJerry posted on 15 Jan 2013, 19:29 1

Sorry

I don't get your point?

28. wendygarett (limited) 3 days ago posted on 15 Jan 2013, 19:30

Must be my bad English lol...

23. papss posted on 15 Jan 2013, 19:11 1

Wait mr Jerry so you "reckon" it's more than 80% or you have proof? I'm confused because it sounds like you opinion pushed as a fact

25. MrJerry posted on 15 Jan 2013, 19:28 1

Sorry I don't have that exact numbers but as I am using them and searched so many reviews for them ,for example @Gsmarena, I reached to that guess

Like I said I "reckon"

But what i am sure is that the number is definately more than 48% if the android handsets are eaqual to iphones

26. wendygarett (limited) 3 days ago posted on 15 Jan 2013, 19:29 2 1

I think Mr Jerry has ignored that iPhone 5 iPad 4 and iPad mini only contained 10% of the whole ios system, and accused that all ios device are flagship...

29. MrJerry posted on 15 Jan 2013, 19:35 1 2

You dont get my point

When Apple phone released, they are all flagships

But for example, Samsung has Galaxy s3 and Note2 as flagship now but they also have galaxy mini,mini2 ace, ace2, gio, music etc,,so many non flagships currently as well

And you know what

Many people buy those non flagships as well and they can say they are not satisfied with Android OS

Yet you think it's same story as Apple's?

30. wendygarett (limited) 3 days ago posted on 15 Jan 2013, 19:47 2 1

And you know what? I don't think flagship device makes people happy, the reason why people buy flagship is because they fell insecure and they don't trust the low end device...

But, when he saw a normal people having a low end device, running smoothly and steady, and happily, he will rethink himself "why would I wanna pay more when the low end device running smoothly too?"

In the end, that guy felt regret and he will never have an happy life...

you can blame my bad English later, but I want to tell you that, the average user with low end device can be satisfied as well...

satisfaction isn't indicate the awesomeness of devices, it indicates happiness of the user...

Did you see the clear picture?

31. MrJerry posted on 15 Jan 2013, 20:01 1 2

One question then

Could you ever buy low end idevices?

Please don't say you still can buy cheap 3gs??

PS: I didn't blame on your english

I just didn't get your point
I can't imagine your point, can I?

32. wendygarett (limited) 3 days ago posted on 15 Jan 2013, 20:15 1 2

Low end phone with high end price actually...

Yes, you can buy cheap 3GS, second handed actually lol

But again, my point is satisfaction ignore the powerness of the spec...

A mini Cooper user can actually happier than the Porsche user... Did you now get it?

35. MrJerry posted on 15 Jan 2013, 20:31 1 2

looooooooool

So you are impying that even though low end Android phone users can be happy as much as High end Android phone...
Of course yes but that doesn't apply to all

It sound like you don't need much money because money can't make you truely happy

36. wendygarett (limited) 3 days ago posted on 15 Jan 2013, 20:47 1 1

Of course, take a look of user review on pa and you will realize that :)

Thank you for finally understand my point, I can see you are high end user and you are happy on it... Stay positive and ignore hater :)

37. wendygarett (limited) 3 days ago posted on 15 Jan 2013, 20:53 3 1

And who the heck give us the red thumb? Lol... I even to jerry because he speak the truth as well...

33. fanboy1974 posted on 15 Jan 2013, 20:19 3

Wake me up when WP overtakes iPhone. Only then will I pay attention to Microsoft as a legit contender to Android.
Don't get me wrong; I would rather see Microsoft over Apple at this point but Microsoft is a very......very.....very long way at beating out Google's dominance.
I don't see Android slipping to second unless Apple shocks everyone by releasing a 5" 1080p iPhone with a totally revamped OS and a surprise innovation. A iPhone 5S will pretty much guarantee Android the number one spot for another 18 months. WP 8 is not enough to make Android users jump ship.
So please Microsoft/WP8 lovers; stop talking out your a$$es!!!

15. fanboy1974 posted on 15 Jan 2013, 18:19 1 2

If Apple releases a iPhone 5s their stocks will be under $400 by year end. The Samsung S4 will be the proverbial head shot and the Note 3 will take out the rest.
Only a larger screen iPhone with redesigned OS will make Android buyers switch.

40. ilia1986 posted on 15 Jan 2013, 23:19 2

The iphone still rules? Rules what exactly? The feature phone market? The fact that people are satisfied with it means squat if all these people use is only the iphone.

I mean - you can be pretty satisfied with canned beans - if that's only what you eat. Once you've tasted a good steak, however...

Lmao for that, but honestly, everything is like our human life... They have infant stage, growth stage , mature stage, and decline stage...

ios is now mature, and will decline very soon and we cannot stop them... Android is growing stage and this year is their mature stage...

I dont know if this is a good thing, but Samsung is not hyping up the Galaxy S4. No rumor, no nothing. Sony's new handsets are what's getting my attention.
