Dare to be square - Nokia X5 slider and X6 8GB version announced
The Finnish phone maker is ploughing through their roadmap for the year with two more handsets in the music-centered Xseries line. The X6 8GB was announced at Nokia Connections in Singapore and is just that – cheaper X6 with less memory and a different paint job. Yawn. Square vision on Nokia's part here, but not the only square thing it announced at the event.

Here comes the X5 – a certainly more interesting addition to the Xseries. Over at Nokia Conversations the X5 is said to bridge the gap between the X3 and X6. It is a totally square Symbian S60 slider, with 5MP cam and LED flash. The chubby device is apparently targeted to the youth audience judging from the official video, with its loudspeakers and candy colors. It's cute, with a full slide-out QWERTY, and is centered on messaging and social networking out of the box. The Nokia X5 does not forget its music roots as a member of the Xseries too, offering dedicated music keys and access to Ovi Music. Not to mention that if you spin the phone, you get a random track starting, or if you shake it, it will update you on the number of new messages you didn't bother to read, cool stuff.

The X5 is supposed to first hit Indonesia in Q3 at EUR 165 before subsidies, followed by broader availability.
