DROID causes Midnight-Madness in Manhattan Verizon Wireless store
November 6th 2009 is "D-day"...for "Droid" that is. A few hours before the Manhattan store opened at Midnight, a crowd started to gather outside. Once Midnight got closer, there is said to have been well over 100 people in line, waiting to break the doors asunder at the stroke of 12. Finally the wait was over, and Verizon allowed 25 people to enter at a time for purchasing of the Motorola Droid and HTC Droid Eris. There were 13 sales reps and 4-5 Droid Specialists on-site to make sure everything with smoothly during the 2-hour pre-dawn event. Verizon Wireless spokesman David Samberg commented that the 34th Street store alone had at least 500 Motorola Droids as well as some HTC Android Eris phones. It is no suprise that there was such a turn out, as Verizon has been on a non-stop media-blitz over the past few weeks, with a dedicated web site, TV commercials, and Newpaper ads. For the rest of us, the Motorola Droid and HTC Droid Eris can be purchased via the Verizon Wireless web site, or by visiting your local Verizon Wireless or BestBuy store.

Can anyone on here give a quick honest review of the Droid? Something more than just about the keyboard and that the Droid is awesome. Thanks!

29. Trobes05 posted on 06 Nov 2009, 22:45

How did you only get it for $99.99...maybe it was a typo but I can only get it for $199.99 and my upgrade was due in July.

It might be possible that he had the New Every Two $100 credit.

(unrelated to above comments) I hate reading all these post and im mad that people are STILL complaining even this time Verizon had plenty of inventory, they finally have a SOLID phone to compete with the iPhon, they finally have an open sourced based phone thats fully customizable...They've given you people everything you wanted and in 2 seperate phones at launch NOT 1 like the iPhone 2 (options people) so QUIT BITCHIN!

2. ChineseMuscle posted on 06 Nov 2009, 08:16

I also understand that a lot of people had difficulty ordering their Droid online. I hope the problem gets rectified so everyone can get their Droid.

Hey vzwman, hope no hard feelings from a reply to you a few days ago about the whole phonearena posting late news and stuff. Anyways, glad to see you're happy w/the DROID. Question, I'm sure you may have notice the Eris...is it nice at all?? I can't afford the Droid right now but I so badly want an Android I'm willing to get lesser hyped up phone at this time. Your thoughts...

vzwman - Post a review thoughts on the forum!!! Looking to hear from a customer, rather the reviewer. How is the batt life, is the home screen delay that big of an issue? How is the built in contact/gmail/facebook integration... if known as good as SENSE?

11. vzwman posted on 06 Nov 2009, 09:11

I'm still charging it so I won't know about the battery life right now. about the homescreen issue I notice no lagg what so ever this phone is fast for everything you ask it to do. Oh and about the key board it is small but it works really well. I'm posting this reply on my droid. From a scale of 1-10 its a 15 in my book!!! Everyone should have a motodroid.

You must have never been to Manhattan.

13. JeffdaBeat posted on 06 Nov 2009, 10:06

Hmm...100 people out of 8 million? I still don't buy the pre-fabricated hype.

14. vzw fanman posted on 06 Nov 2009, 10:10

um hello bro, that's one store out of like 30 in the greater nyc area.

21. videobandit posted on 06 Nov 2009, 13:39

Well it said "well over" 100 people as midnight approached and says nothing of how many people came in and bought the devices over the 2 hour event.

15. vzwman posted on 06 Nov 2009, 10:27

24. vzw fanman posted on 06 Nov 2009, 16:57

welcome to my world. :-T

25. Sufcc posted on 06 Nov 2009, 18:47

The width of the phone makes it a bit awkward for my medium sized hands to type fast. I am coming from a Curve since release so it will take a bit of adjusting. Virtual keyboard works great in both modes. Camera is great. Multitasking is fast. Only lag is when something installs which is obvious why there would be some. No lag when switching screens or apps. Browser is great.

26. JackFace posted on 06 Nov 2009, 20:15

Thanks! Nice to hear!

27. ddripp posted on 06 Nov 2009, 20:44

I was hoping we'd be getting some more info on the Passion by now. It's been a while since we've received any new news. I was waiting on finding out the specs to that and when it was going to be released before I put down dollars for the Droid.

33. vzwman posted on 07 Nov 2009, 06:34

The only thing I didn't like about the Eris when I was testing out both phones was the build quality I'm sorry to say that Eris felt cheap in my hands another thing that I found was that the track ball feels to loose. I'm sure the passion will have better build quality

34. vzwman posted on 07 Nov 2009, 06:40

I just hope HTC passions build feels like a highend smartphone Like ma Droid. Sorry I just had to throw that one in there

35. xcalibur posted on 07 Nov 2009, 07:50

I hope they let us know what other android devices are on the way I wanna make that leap to android, now if htc made a android phone with a hardware keyboard for verizon I'd be good, another thing I hope someone is working on a way to port sense ui to the droid that would be nice also.
