Because of Android's open source background, handsets like the Motorola DROID allow the Android Market to install a site like MiKandi on your device...

I knew something like this was gonna surface one day. Open source means OPEN!!!.... TO EVERYTHING POSSIBLE under the sun. It's the price you pay to let someone have the ability to develop their own apps. The only "counter strike" Google has is to come up with some sort of Content Filtering app. They can't use that kind of filtering for the base code of the OS because then it wouldn't be OPEN. Some of the apps they DO approve of are borderline 'adult' content anyway. And for the people bitching about 12 year olds having access to this stuff; give it a break. It's not about what device they have ( smartphone or dumbphone ) but about the parent's knowledge of HOW to block content ( which they can do for free on My Verizon ). So not giving a kid a smartphone isn't the answer. If they have a PSP or iTouch, it's virtually the same thing....but with a phone attached. Hell, Verizon's HTML based devices ( enV3, Nokia Intrigue, Nokia Twist, Rogue, etc. ) can view "nudy pics" easily. The enV Touch and Versa even have support for Flash; something even Blackberry doesn't have. Just one more reason for someone to point the finger.

Open source is nothing about content, it as about the SOURCE CODE being viewable and editable. you can block or add any functionality you want that is the beauty of open source. if you dont like a block learn to code and take it out!!!

I think you totally missed the point of the thread. Nobody's complaining that there are all these blockers out there that they can't get around. They are simply noting the inevitability of the open source format going pornographic. And the need for some type of content filter that will also inevitably arise due to said pornogrophy. I have to agree, if your child is too young to see nudity, he shouldn't have a device that would get him access to such stuff. No PC, no phone, no iTouch, or any of that until they can get a job and buy it themselves, Not even a TV in his room. Kids are smart about technology, they always figure out how to circumvent the parental controls. That's how I feel. Even when they are buying their own, I think a responsible parent should be monitoring usage.

I'm surprised that Getjar isn't mentioned in this article. I've been getting adult apps from then for some time now and recently obtained an Android phone which, not to any suprise, GetJar.com had plenty of quality Adult oriented applications.
