It's no secret that CyanogenMod is by far the most popular custom ROM available for Android, and its user base has made a pretty big jump since the last numbers check in July of last year. At the time, there were just over 500,000 unique installs of the system...

Poor Android device that have lousy OS, and forcing people to install something like this. What a waste of time.

Dude stop trolling. You can't get a level of customization like this on the iPhone. Android is a much more flexible OS.

agreed. iOs has no sort of good customisations. NO widgets, no free themes. and the whole UI of iOS is justr plain tad boring. Androids, haiz... HIGH level of customisation, and their app market has good apps too. now stop complaining, QinEmpire Apple fanboy.

although i am an android fanboy i gotta agree with you for this one.

most manufactuer roms are REALLY REALLY lousy. thats why every phone I buy, even Nexus S, I replace with either MIUI or CM7, or CM9

the truth is that android sucks unless you get a custom rom, or even a custom kernal

but once you get a custom rom, Android will blow your mind

To respond to a couple of posts:

Well...for one...I think there are a lil more than 2 million Android users....so its not like every Android user is installing this.

So these ROMs arent being installed because they have to be. They are being installed because ppl want to install it.

I dont have a custom ROM or kernel on my RAZR and Rezound. One isnt even rooted. My Droid X1 doesnt have a ROM anymore. Neither does my Droid 1. I have been using Android since Mar 2010. Running ROMs since day one.

The hardware and software has gotten better, so I dont feel the need to do it anymore. Some ppl do.

Thats called....choice...... No one is being forced to install this. Whats wild...I felt I had to do it on the Droid 1. But not on the Droid X1 and RAZR. All I really have to do is put a different launcher on my Rezound. No need for a ROM.

Even tho I dont like the Rezound..its mostly the hardware and less about Sense UI. And...I like Blur alot more than Sense UI.

Exactly, I only decided to switch to CM9 because i stated to feel like my phone was outdated. I loved everything about my phone until ICS started rolling out and my pals started getting new phones.

If i didnt have the choice to change these things I'd spend too much money on phones trying to keep myself feeling technologically relevant.

I wonder how these mod guy do for a living since all mods are free and they dedicate lots of time on it. Perhaps this is part time for them.

CM has contributed to almost all custom roms in oneway or another (exception of MIUI)...awesome team...awesome rom.

miui is based on cm7.

Just as you can install a different OS on your pc, I think more groups of people should be able to and support custom roms. Choice is one of the greatest things in a world this crazy.
