I thought Cyanogen Mod was to bring performance and older handsets newer versions of Android.

Now it's become something else totally!

Yes you are right. It's just they need to make sure it works on the most current devices, THEN it will trickle down to older devices that can handle it.

Don't worry the OFFICIAL CM9 will be out very soon & you won't believe the amount of devices that it will work on.

Cyanogenmod is more about being an optimized form of AOSP. It was originally created back in the days there were only 3 android phone (G1, MT3G, and Hero) which were all very similar so wasn't so much about lesser hardware (G1 was the lesser of the group though). Due to it being optimized it is a great solution for older hardware to get the latest OS though.

CM9 is better. I have tried AOKP & it's very laggy out of the box. To me the best ROM out is axi0m CMPLX. It's so snappy, FAST & lag free, & that is out of the box. To me AOKP is all about adding features that most people have bought apps for, than concentrating on actual speed & lag free performance.

Plus AOKP is just a KANG of CM9. I mean it’s in their name. A-ndroid, O-pen, K-ang, P-roject!
