Custom ROMS point that all HTC HD2 smartphones have 576MB of RAM
With a watchful set of eyes, it appears that the HTC HD2 packs more RAM than what was initially thought. Still it leaves many people wondering why the Taiwanese manufacturer would do such a thing – some speculate that it could’ve been used for Windows Mobile 7. Thanks to using custom ROMS on the smartphone, it seemingly unlocks the hidden amount of memory that was stowed away – almost left to be forgotten. So instead of having only 448MB of RAM, it now points to carrying a total load of 576MB. Owners of the original handset can now rest easily knowing their beloved phone is equally as equipped in the RAM department versus the expected HTC HD2 for T-Mobile.

All those other HD2 owners should feel foolish about complaining about not having the extra RAM when in fact they did all along and all that complaining really meant nothing, just goes to show you. LOL

Well, in their defence, HTC told them that they only had 448, the device internals only told 448. It took custom hacking to reveal taht it really had more. So the avg user really wouldn't have any reason to believe otherwise. So let it be a lesson to all WinMo users to become a member of XDA.

why would HTC be hiding extra memory anyways?..perhaps redistributing is elsewhere internally for the device?

The only thing that seems logic to me and to many newspapers I read that talked about it, is that HTC wanted to 'hide' the fact that the HTC HD2 will be able to upgrade to WM7. If it did have the original 448 mb of RAM, acording to the minimum spec list, it would not be upgradeable. I am not sure about all this, but it seems the best reason.
