Cupertino blown away by demand for Apple iPhone 5
0. phoneArena 15 Sep 2012, 01:49 posted on
The first day of pre-orders for the Apple iPhone 5 found strong demand for the device across all carriers and models; after the fairly tepid response to the Apple iPhone 4S, pre-orders for the Apple iPhone 5 led Apple spokesman to say that Apple has been "blown away" by the demand for the phone...

Well, how many 3GS/4 owners were at the end of their contracts? Probably most of that universe upgraded. Add in those 4S owners who have to have the most current edition of the iToy, and you have the makings of significant market demand.

It is a nice piece of fashion
I would buy if Apple was not so ugly greedy patent trolling liar
And if it was not so fragile
I don't like bumpers It is really ugly
Why design aluminum and glass if all is hidden

Apple has caused a hype once yet again. Sales and shares will dominate. We thank Apple®

PS: I don't think all this will stop the iPhone 5 from being the best selling (i)phone yet. The (i) will remain in brackets at least until the sales figures of S3/920/5 come up. I'm not telling the iPhone 5 is crap but it isn't as innovative as the iPhone 4 was, and I fail to see what the iPhone 5 can do what the 4S can't (except LTE and adding a bigger screen that is). The 920 is a great phone and will sell better than the first gen Lumias but I doubt if it'll manage to top sales of this phone or the S3, because WP is yet to kick off as an OS and Lumias aren't as established brand names as the iPhone/Galaxy S series.

Apple only said that to hide their miserableness. obviously they had poor demand. and said that to create a make believe world of their own. Only morons would be ''blown away'' by the SAME iteration of iphone. Apple is just talking out of it's a**. Even Hitler has an objective view of the iphone 5. I just watched the hitler iphone video and couldn't stop laughing.

Let's go back to the basic need for a cell phone.
to make a call and send txt messages.
Some people likes Samsung III for the comfort bcoz they have big hands thus the big fingers.
While others prefer iPhone bcoz they have smaller hands.
Why is it so hard to give some people the benefit of the doubt.
They buy the iPhone bcoz it works just the way a phone shud be expected.
Not many people like lots of us here likes to tinker with the phone.
Simple as that.
Stop worrying and hating, as long as it doesn't affect me physically why should I get emotionally involved?!

Why T-Mobile doesn't offer iPhone...
14. Droid_X_Doug (Posts: 5993; Member since: 22 Dec 2010)
Cliff-Notes answer is that T-Mo doesn't have compatible frequencies for the iPhone.

But tmo offer in europe, why not the home countries :(
121. Droid_X_Doug (Posts: 5993; Member since: 22 Dec 2010)
D-T has frequencies in Europe that are part of the 'mainstream'. Therefore, iPhone for D-T. In the colonies, D-T (through T-Mo) was late to the party. T-Mo likely didn't want to pay the bribe that Steve demanded to make the iPhone compatible with T-Mo. Sprint had to bite off on an outrageous purchase commitment over 5 years to get the iPhone franchise.

But doesn't T-mobile take iPhones if they are unlocked?
123. Droid_X_Doug (Posts: 5993; Member since: 22 Dec 2010)
Yes, and the data feed to those phones is limited to EDGE (100 Kb/s under ideal conditions). Even Sprint's under-whelming 3G network can serve data 10x faster.

That's why I always prefer sprint over tmo :)

Who knows how many devices were sold?
Maybe even they did not expect to sell 1000units in each carrier:))

That may be case because if it had broken iPhone 4s record Apple big mouth will be shouting numbers.
And for the 4s users this is not a worthy upgrade only for 3GS and iP4 users should be interested in this.

Apple NEVER spouts numbers. Just wait until their next earnings call. They let everyone know how many they sold. I work at a Verizon agent and we've taken twice as many preorders for the iPhone 5 as we have any other phone including the 4S in one day.

I think one of the Twilight movies still holds the record for biggest opening night ever.
Sales do not equal quality. I can't reinforce this concept enough.

the first twilight movie holds the record for biggest opening for a female director. i believe The Dark Knight had the record for biggest opening ever(?) or was it HP7 Part2... cant rmb :/
well at least e first twilight isnt as bad as the other 3 twilight movies -.- and dont get me wrong, twilight was bad
16. u-suck-more (Posts: 529; Member since: 26 Aug 2011)
just did a quick google, Avengers is the biggest opening ever, followed by HP7 Part 2, than The Dark Knight Rises
37. smartphone (Posts: 160; Member since: 21 Oct 2011)
The dark knight rises has the highest opening for a 2D film, Avengers is the highest if 3D films included.

Hardly a surprise.

I totally agree! Blown away...please lets be real, you haven't launched a new design in two YEARS...obviously the fan base is going to loose their nuts!!! So obvious WTF!

Since watching that Jimmy Kimmel video showing the average iPhone buyer no doubt, they could always substitute the lack of iP5s with the 4 or 4s. Their blind loyalty will override their common sense, and the illusion will become more real than a Chris Angel trick. They could do this every year.

Honestly, what else where you expecting Apple to say at this point?
Anything that comes out of Cupertino is marketing. If anything, the Apple vs. Samsung trial revealed once and for all that what Apple says is not a reflection of reality (unless they manage to sway reality by their statements, which sadly has happened on occasions).
26. Gaytor (Posts: 51; Member since: 09 Sep 2012)
Definitely a surprise. There is nothing new there. Strange because S3 and Note 2 should be more than thought provoking enough to make some ifans hink it over befor to i5. Think the metal bbody and nice interface is just such a strong lure. Demand will reduce outside US for sure.
