Not that it will come as any consolation for the guy who dropped his Samsung Galaxy S III face-down recently, but Corning itself confirmed that the new Android flagship is indeed protected by its most advanced creation to date - Gorilla Glass 2...

i dont give a damn whatever they say. The glass shattered the same time when my new S3 dropped from my side pocket. and there's a another guy works in my office, his S3 suffered the same fate. So much hype about gorilla glass 2, its all bulls**t.

Or maybe you and that guy are WP fanboy break it yourself to sabotage Samsung S3 sales. By the way, that glass is not shattered proof, just much much more better then other glass.

HEY!!!!!!!!!! The problem isn't in thoughnes of gorilla glass 2, the problem with samsung galaxy s3's display is in the frame, the frame of the s3 is WEAK because of two reasons:
1. it has 4.8'' screen
2. it is made of plastic(polycarbonate) and not metall
21. groupsacc (Posts: 232; Member since: 28 Feb 2012)
So you dropped your S3. And your workmate dropped S3.
What are the chances. lol
If Gorilla Glass is not good enough for ya, go buy a brick phone. That will do the trick for ya and won't ever break. A brick phone. Literally. A brick.

7. SlimSoulja86 (Posts: 648; Member since: 03 Nov 2011)
What if the guy works for apple and they got the phone and they broke it.
Just a thought
You have the right to disagree wit me. But dont make a fool outta yoself. Ayt?

you are a troll or just a stupid kid?
conspiracy theory everywhere. The truth is that gorilla glass 2 is not as strong as the old one. Period. s**t happens.

This is not the best. The dragontrail glass is 10 times stronger. I guess it is used in latest
sony xperia devices

wonder what will happen if i jump on the phone glass...well guys no worries...will test it after 5th.
11. sammy_saw (Posts: 28; Member since: 07 Jan 2012)
If the test is real in the video how come the guy s3 glass shattered when it fell on the floor ? Or the poor guy s3 glass has a factory defect ? Dose Samsung will replace the glass free of charge ? Dose the warranty cover the shattered glass?

Whatever happened to "Lotus" Glass, which was supposed to be even better, and launched about a year or so ago?

Maybe its just Samsung devices, I have dropped my Photon 4G a dozen times with very minor dings and scratches. Screen is still beautiful and clear so the build quality might be crap on Samsung devices. Just a thought so please don't be offended. To me, my phone looks nice, why put a case on it to make it ugly. If OEM's would just step their build quality game up, we wouldn't need cases to protect them. The iPhone 4/4s looks really slick but that's the worse phone ever to have without a case. You have to hide the sleek style of the phone with a bulky case to protect something the company should have invested money to build it better in the 1st place.

I love how corning always uses a small square piece of glass for the impact tests, when no phone has a display in the shape of a tiny little square. Of course the glass is going to be stronger when its a tiny little square vs a rectangular piece which is what most displays are theses days. Anyhow, with flexible displays right around the corner this will soon be a thing of the past and hopefully so will shattered displays. :)

So much for Gorilla Glass 2...
Wifes Galaxy S III, less than 3 days old, has mysteriously gotten a scratch...she's treated it very well (it's not even been 3 days!)...
My original Galaxy S is pushing 2 years...not a scratch...(original Gorilla Glass)
25. tonkatoy (Posts: 1; Member since: 11 Jul 2012)
HMMMMMM Gorilla Glass 2 EH, I put my 5 day old Samsung Galaxy S3 onto my bed, crawled into bed to play with my new phone, rolled over to grab it and my elbow was pressing onto the sreen, i picked it up to use it and the display was spidered from the button to the top of the screen.....multiple cracks and i didnt even put my body into it. Very disappointed with the strength..... maybee i got a defective unit but FYI i get to play with alot of cool phones in my business and have never broke a screen with this little of effort. Samsung should consider a tougher design because the phone is crazy fast and so far everything is rocking but the screen...... POOR GORILLA GLASS 2......
For example i took the girlfriends iphone the same night and tried to replicate the same inncident and no go, much tougher, not that i like iphone but WTF should be better than it.

I received my new S3 Tuesday afternoon, less then 24hrs later while the phone was in my padded clutch purse with only Cash (bills) and my Id, the glass shattered when my purse it the side of my car door, not hard, i was simply getting out of the car.
No one in Calgary has the glass yet to replace it, all the repair shops are saying they are getting many calls for shattered/cracked glass from people who JUST bought this expensive phone. It is going to cost me more the double the price I paid for the phone to fix it, and it looks like no one will get the glass in for at least 3 weeks... THAT IS JUST COMPLETELY UNEXCEPTABLE SAMSUNG!!!!
27. benjit (Posts: 1; Member since: 20 Jul 2012)
Great advert for Gorilla Glass. Unfortunately, they didn't show the 'drop from 4 inches onto a wooden table' test, which managed to slay the gorilla glass on my galaxy s3 having only just turned it on for the first time. Surely I can't be the only person this has happened to and that the product is not fit for purpose?
28. mickeyt (Posts: 1; Member since: 01 Aug 2012)
my glass too has broken not dissing the glass or construction but more the design it is so hard to hold the handset with its slippery back cover (at the risk of getting struck down by avid s3 fans!!) i have ordered a new glass off ebay with the hope with being very careful i can change it if anyone has done this let me know .
beginning to wish i was not so taken with the hype and got an s2

I honestly dont give a sH**t about this debate you guys have going on here, Im really upset right now. Fact is ive had my Galaxy for one week now, I havent goten around getting a protective cover for it yet and I just droped it, my hands were sweety and i was texting with one hand when the damn thing just sliped out, it fell face down, the screen is totaly shattered, everyting still works just fine, but it looks damnn ugly as u can imagine........Please just tell me this can be fixed? and more or less what would i pay for this repair? :-( It didnt even fall hard, I had a Samsung Galaxy S1 before this phone, that thing fell like 50 times and i still have it. :-(
30. GalaxyS3User88 (Posts: 2; Member since: 04 Sep 2012)
@ mickeyt, me too man! Go check you tube theres a vedio on how to do it, but i would much rather let a profesional do this, I payed too much for this handset to mess it up even more. check this link /http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_70-W9JjVjg

thus confirming that gorilla glass 2's claim of thinner AND stronger is either bunk, or there is some anti-vibration mechanisms missing from the phone.
32. kladmin (Posts: 1; Member since: 22 Oct 2012)
This is not BS. I put my phone in my pcket and apparently sitting down with the S3 in your pocket is something that cause too much stress. 2 days after I paid ALOT of money for it the glass was cracked. No drops, simply sitting while having phone in pocket. I really shouldn't have to remove the phone from my pocket every time I want to sit down.
Poo on you Corning/Samsung, the fragility of the Galaxy S3 is just rediculous.
33. dondon (Posts: 1; Member since: 19 Nov 2012)
Same Fate here. I dropped my S3 for about 2 feet high. and it suddenly broken like car windshield.
34. gmwow (Posts: 1; Member since: 03 Dec 2012)
My S3 dropped 12 inches to the carpeted floor on the 5th day I bought it and cracked all the way across. Immediate warranty void. Neither samsung nor sprint will repair or replace it. samsung refuses to admit despite the thousands of complaints on this that there might be a problem. Their customer service is pretty rude too. hung up on me twice.
The thing is, even though this phone has a polycarbonate frame that reduces the rigidity of the phone, the flexibility demonstrated in this video would more than make up for it. The glass shouldn't crack it should bend with the shock wave, but it doesn't.
It seems to me this is either large scale manufacturing defect, or corning has a lot to answer for. Either way there should be a recall.
35. rps13ka (Posts: 1; Member since: 17 Dec 2012)
Brand new phone, only few hours of use. 2 foot drop to concrete floor, straight from pocket to floor when I was bending over. CRACK CRACK CRACK CRACK. I understand a scratch or few. Or maybe a single crack across the screen. But multiple cracks like a spider web. WTF?? This is some really weak weak stuff. I'm most likely gonna sell my S3 if anyone is interested. I have receipt too. From metropcs. I'm gonna get it fixed first, then selling it.
The touch screen still functions fine. But I can't deal with a phone like this, because its too much money and should have been tougher. I've had multiple phones, seen friends phones hit much harder then this S3 and just nicks and scratches. This is pure BS Samsung and Gorilla glass. Hopefully there can be a recall or something.
If anyone looking for S3 metropcs 16gb white. Getting new glass installed soon, email me turbogodzilla@gmail
I'm just gonna keep using my HTC. Maybe S4 will have tougher screen.
