OnePlus 5 will feature a Snapdragon 835 processor and front fingerprint scanner
In recent years, fingerprint scanners have become almost ubiquitous when it comes to high-end (and even mid-end, or more modest) smartphones.

While some handsets - like the iPhone 7 or HTC U11 - feature fingerprint scanners on the front, there's a large number of important phones that have their scanners on the back - Samsung Galaxy S8, Google Pixel, LG G6, and so on. As you may know, handsets made by OnePlus fall into the latter category - they've always had fingerprint scanners on the front. And we now know that this won't change with the upcoming OnePlus 5.

OnePlus CEO and co-founder Pete Lau recently confirmed that the OnePlus 5 would keep its fingerprint scanner on the front - just like the OnePlus 3T and its predecessors. The confirmation came via Weibo (China's largest microblogging platform), while Liu Zuotu was answering questions about the OnePlus 5. Unfortunately, it looks like this is the only valuable (and previously unknown) detail that the CEO was able to share.

Update: OnePlus also just confirmed that the OnePlus 5 will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor - no surprise here. Thanks to the Snapdragon 835 (also used inside flagships like Samsung's Galaxy S8), the new handset should, according to OnePlus, offer a "flawlessly smooth performance."

Snapdragon 835 CPU and fingerprint scanner aside, OnePlus revealed (not long ago) that the OnePlus 5 would be released this summer, coming with a camera developed in collaboration with DxO. The handset could have multiple color variants, including some unusual ones - like a gradient from purple to blue.

If you're interested in the OnePlus 5, do you think it's good news that the handset will have its fingerprint scanner on the front? Or maybe you don't care that much about where the scanner is situated? Let us know in the comments below!
