Cingular to launch global 3G plan

Cingular Wireless has announced its intentions to release a new service for its subscribers, who often travel out of the country, called GlobalConnect. The new service, which features unlimited data usage on the carrier's EDGE and 3G networks as well as 100 MB of data roaming per month, includes two data plans - North American and Overseas. The North American plan will be offered for $109.99 for roaming in Canada and Mexico. The Overseas plan will be available for $139.99 and will provide access in more than two dozen countries. With the launch of GlobalConnect next month, Cingular plans to release the recently announced Option GlobeTrotter GT MAX card, which includes quad-band GPRS/EDGE and tri-band (850/1900/2100) UMTS/ HSDPA. Through Cingular's Communication Manager the card provides access to HSDPA, UMTS, EDGE and GPRS cellular networks as well as to public and private Wi-Fi networks.
