Well I guess that's mostly Android. After all, there was an article posted yesterday I think that said iPhone shares dropped 50% during Q2.

glad to see the U.S in 1st place but sad to see it ignore by most carriers.. making the international version usually better thanks to our carriers..

India ~80% of smartphone market is Samsung+Nokia+RIM with samsung at 40%+
Other 20% is HTC/Sony/Karbon/Micromax/LAVA/LAVA-XOLO (intel)/Apple/So many others.

World wide OS share per Q2 results is:
Android: 68.1
iOS:16.9%
BB:4.8%
Symbian: 4.4%

If you believe in the theory of disruptive technology, then something will overtake android, which by the way, is a victim of success as predicted by disruptive technology. I know Apple has been fight against disruptive technology with stickiness, ease of use, etc, but the competition is closing that gap.

It's just amazing how as technology gets better AND cheaper, and how established companies just get blindsided.

The best way to see disruptive technology is to look at no-contract handsets. For $300, I bought the Moto Triump last July. Today, if I went back into the market, I could buy the Samsung Galaxy S2 for the same $300 on the Walmart/T-mobile plan. I can get 4G WiMax phones on Virgin or Boost for $279, or Samsung Galaxy Reverb for $249 on Virgin. The LG Optimus V type phones are going for $80 to $100.

It's no wonder android has taken over the world, price is a major barrier for people who are income challenged. Right now, you can go to Wal-mart and walk out with an android device for as little as $60.

Next year, that $60 android handset will come with a faster chip, more RAM, a better display, possibly a larger display, a better camera, possibly 4G access, etc simply because the technology gets better AND cheaper.

We saw how prices collasped in desktops, then in laptops, and smartphones will follow that trend.

What if American ban Android and the rest of the world still continue to use them.

Android is an American's product for now and its open source meaning China could take over the development if they choose to. The chinese government wanted Google to keep Android open for at least another five years.

Would American give up their mobile technology leads and hand it over to another country?

My favorite part of this article is the third graphic, entitled, "Countries with Highest Penetration Among Adults 15 - 64 years old". Apparently, 15 year olds are adults & people 65 & over are not.
