Wireless carriers will do whatever they can to protect you from experiencing bill shock these days. Sure, they are the ones who are causing it to us (or maybe we are the ones causing it?), but since an unhappy customer can mean a lot of trouble, it seems it's not in carriers' best interest to upset you...

Verizon already has a built in app that lets you see where you stand at any time during the month as far as your minutes, texts and data goes. You can put the widget on one of your hoe screens and tap it to check your stats. Sure, it doesn't have as many features as the one in the article, but it tells you where you stand in comparison to your plan. In the end it all relies on the user to look at the information. If someone doesn't pay attention to it, how is it the carriers fault if they go over?

You cannot do that anymore. They took that feature away because it made it too easy for the consumer to avoid overage charges. :P or maybe that is just sour grapes. either way, you can't do it anymore. At least not on ICS

Actually the usage widget is still available. It was only unavailable for a few days so they could adjust it to work with the new Share Everything plans.

And I work for a Verizon retailer and also have a Razr Maxx.....with ICS.... with the usage widget fully functional.

Ok, so I spelled "home" wrong, my bad. I too have a RAZR with ICS, and the widget is fully functional. They did try to take it away for a few days, but the outcry was so huge they put it back. Legally, yes LEGALLY, all carriers have to provide a way for you to monitor your minutes, and also have an alert system in place to let you know when you hit certain landmarks. If you have Verizon, and have a minute plan, you will get an alert when you hit 50%, 75%, 100% and 105% of your usage. Same goes for data and texts. Still, the responsibility lies with the customer to call in or go to the website to change the plan if they go over or get close before the end of their billing month. If not, the overage is yours.
