Caterpillar to launch rugged Cat B15 Android handset next month

Caterpillar is known for building rugged construction and mining vehicles and machines, and with that background of building long lasting machines that can survive through anything, Cat has started using that know-how to produce an Android model that belongs to that niche group of rugged handsets that can withstand anything...

That actually doesn't look too bad. The failing point for these tough phones is their screen though. Hopefully it's responsive. WVGA on a 4" isn't terrible I guess...

See I actually really like this phone in theory a lot. Know of a lot of people who's line of work would make this phone ideal but I have my doubts. 512MB RAM just doesn't seem like it would be enough for android. WP does well with it but in my experience android needs at least a gig. My old phone had 768MB and it was sluggish though that might have been due to the bloatware garbage htc sense. Maybe stock android is different.

Why do the rugged phones always have sub par specs? Only 512 MB RAM...Really?!!!

Because if specs matter to you, you're probably smart enough to buy a case and a screen protector.

They do... but I got my cake and eat too. RAZR MAXX gorilla glass and nano coating plus good specs.
More phones need this!

Pretty cool. This isn't designed for the general public. People that work in construction don't spend much time on apps. They need a phone and text ability, along with a map program mostly.

This is actually a pretty sexy phone. I wish more phones were designed like this. They should offer this phone with the pre-paid carriers. Alot of people buy a secondary work phone through pre-paid. I have my AT&T Galaxy S3 for personal use, then I have my Boost Mobile phone for work. This phone would be awesome for work. I just can't justify spending over $400 on a secondary work phone.

It is great to see Caterpillar committing to these types of devices. I am happy to see the screen is large enough to view drawings on site from connected applications like Buildcircle. Jelly Bean is a big improvement over the previous versions of android. Good job Cat, keep it up!
