Worse Battery life I have ever had! My wife and I got the boulder last week free online from Verizon with a two year contract. We went to verizon yesterday her battery did not last 18 hours and mine was a little over 24 hours this with out much use. We both were given new phones seems that these are jsut as bad. The clarity and volume from the phone is also very Poor!

Wait! -- When were they free with a 2-year contract?! - I'm elligible for the free $99 upgrade, but they're $129! -- So, did I miss when they were free?! :-(

Maybe the CSR at Verizon gave them an extra discount. The guy at the Circuit City did that for me. It might depend on your plan, etc... how nice they want to be...

Not hearing the best of comments on this phone anywhere. They local stores are sold out until Friday. I really wanted to get this phone, but am afraid of the problems. BUT - I also know that 9 out of 10 people that don't like a phone are going to post comments, and only 1 out of 10 people that like the phone are going to post comments. So, I know there are people out there that aren't having problems.... just, am I going to be one of those? I'm really picky about how good my phone is. Also, I want to trust that it's waterproof without actually putting my phone in water. I read that one person had moisture on the inside of both of their screens after kayaking. :-( Water damage isn't usually covered at Verizon, so I don't want to go throw my phone in the sink to find out that it won't be replaced if it leakes. Also, like others have said -- calls are the most important. That's the main purpose of the phone. If I can't hear the person on the other end, then there's no use.

Whoa whoa friend! That 1 out of 10 statistic seems terribly low! Almost inaccurately so! I know when I got my voyager, I was all over this forum (actually one giant post) singing its praises... Unfortunately now, I actually need a good smartphone, as my job kind of requires it. Oh well! Anyway, I just can't see this phone being useful to many people other than to a really small niche (i.e. construction workers, hikers who can't buy a satellite phone, etc.). What do you do? And how do you mainly plan on using your phone? If I were you, I'd wait for an awesome blackberry that your hospital will partly subsidize so that you can use it for both personal use as well as being notified of being on call... What? too much info??? =)

have a public service job that may require me to stand outside for a period of time in the rain -- or any kind of weather. -- I had water damage to a phone before, and basically want a phone that I can have on my belt, or talk on, in the rain, and don't "freak out" if it starts sprinkling outside. If it's at all sprinkling outside, or snowing, I won't talk on my phone. -- I want to get rid of this paranoia. I think a waterproof phone would do this. But, I didn't want the last version of this phone either, because it didn't have any features.

Don't get this phone until Casio fixes the problem. Plain and simple. It's a design/manufacturing flaw that proves the phone wasn't properly tested before introduction. If it's a flaw introduced from the vendor (factory), then they aren't doing any Quality Control. Either way, I would hold off until it's fixed. I called Casio/Starcom yesterday and the only thing the guy would tell me was to return it, he had no other info. When I speak to my wife on her Verizon LG Voyager, I can barely understand her....

I received an Orange one last Thursday (a week ago now), and am very pleased with it. Several folks here and otherwise have complained about two things, audio quality and battery life. The “audio quality” issue is a common error that many people make. Look at the phone - the speaker is very small (they have to make it waterproof after all!), and it is way up at the top of the phone. Several people I’ve seen try to use my phone put there ear up to the screen, which is below the speaker! The audio quality is bad if you try to listen to the screen 8^). Move the phone down so that the tip of the phone where the speaker is located on or even in your ear. The audio quality is fine if you listen to the speaker. I have to admit that the microphone and speaker are not the best I’ve ever used/heard, but think about it, the mic and speaker are waterproof in this thing. The sound quality is probably slightly muffled since it is waterproof, but it is better than most cell phones I have used. The battery life can be a problem, but is usually due to using flash animated wallpaper (the default surfer you get with the phone, or the football or mountain biker flash animations that come with the phone), or setting the phone timeout settings too high. The other issue with the battery is that there are two batteries, a small one and a high capacity one. The phone comes with the small battery. Here are the default settings for the phone, if you set these higher than this, you’ll significantly decrease your battery life (these settings are all under Settings & Tools/Display Settings): Display backlight: 7 seconds Keypad backlight: 7 seconds Power saver: 2 minutes The last one seems to be the real killer, setting this to 10 minutes drains the battery quite quickly. And also under Display Settings is the Wallpaper setting. This significantly affects the battery life. If you choose any of the Flash animations from “Fun Animations” (the surfer (default Wallpaper setting when you get the phone), football or MTB mountain biking), these use up your battery very quickly. Choose a still picture and that should help quite a bit. There are two batteries, the “standard” one which is 800mAh (the VZ website says 810, but I’m looking at the battery itself, and it says 800), and an “extended battery” which is 1680mAh. That should help quite a bit, although it looks a bit bigger and is probably heavier as well. No I don’t work for VZ or Casio or own stock in these companies, no connection.

I originally purchased the Boulder when it first came out online...I received it set it all up and the speaker (ear piece) was blown...sounded like a Kazoo (LOL)...sent it back and received a new one...I agree the sound quality isnt the best but if you do turn it down it sounds fine....I agree i was a little hesitant to keep the phone but overall im real happy with it (so far)

I order phones for our school district and we have about 300. I've got 10 Boulder's in use now and our people love them. Several people here wanted to know who would use them other than hikers and construction workers. I get them for our maintenance people, transportation department, and all my administrators who seem to think they need their phones with them when they go fishing and other things out in the country. We're in Wyoming so we do go up in the mountains for work and pleasure and through VZW. We love this phone. As for the compass, it is very helpful for our bus drivers and our maintenance and construction supervisor people. Heck they use google earth for all our new sites and all. So, this is a great phone for us. I'm thinking of getting the orange one for my floater phone then everyone will know who broke their phone because they are using my orange one!

I have had the Boulder for 1 week. I just upgraded from the Gzone S. The Boulder has a sound quality problem and the battery does not last very long. My S battery lasted 3 days of hard use with no re-charge. Also, my Boulder suddenly locks up when pressing the send key and the only way to clear it is to remove the battery for a moment. I am taking it to VZW to exchange for anotehr one. I do love the Casio phones though. I have dropped mine in a pond, put it in a glass of water as a joke and dropped it on the ground countless times. Still works (the S version).

The sound quality of this phone is horrible. It is very hard to hear some people. The range of sound is very poor with this phone. People also say I sound like i'm far away or speaking through a tunnel. I like everything else about the phone other than the weak battery, which is 250mah less than the previous version. I am unfortunately returning this phone for one with better sound quality. When it comes down to it, I need to make clear calls and understand what people are saying. I felt the performance was unacceptable compared to their other GZ One Phones which I very much like.

My wife and I each got one of these phones this week, and we both love them, sound quality is great, we both love the PTT function. Almost every function on this phone seems to be designed for our needs, all the way down to the flashlight! I cant say enough good about it. Perfect for our needs!
