While some bigger carriers are losing subscribers, Leap Wireless added 258,000 net subscribers to its list of customers bringing its total to 6.2 million people; the company had an operating loss of $15.8 million in Q1 and plans on offering 7 new handsets for the back to school season...

If they can offer the most affordable (cheapest) rates then they'd be a viable alternative.
