Carmageddon for Android to launch on May 10, free for a day

0. phoneArena 08 May 2013, 02:11 posted on

After launching on iOS in late 2012, the once-popular classic video game Carmageddon is now scheduled to land on Android as well. And it's coming soon, very soon – on May 10, to be more specific, so mark the date in your calendar, especially if you want to get the game for free...

Accept it: When it comes to games, App Store is way ahead of the Play Store.

This is not so true anymore. Today, Apple released the list of the 25 most downloaded apps ever, and guess what? They're all available on Android as well. Apple still retains an advantage, most games are still released for iOS before Android, but this happens less and less frequently and situations like this, where a game is released for Android two years after it was released for iOS, are not frequent anymore, not for new games at least. Take Real Racing 3 for example (one of the most awaited games lately...): it came out almost at the same time. With the number of android tablets rising, especially 7'' tablets which are perfect for gaming, the difference between app store and play store is destined to disappear.

Firstly, I'm talking about games, not apps. So you're point of the most downloaded apps is invalid.
Secondly you talking about Real Racing 3? How about CSR Racing? The top grossing app made it to android an year later. Temple Run is another example. I can tell you a lot of iOS exclusive games.
Sword and sworcery- Game of the year (iOS exclusive)
Ridiculous Fishing - Game of the year 2012 (iOS exclusive)
Slayin', Pixel People, SpaceTeam, Sky Gamblers, Punch Quests, Mikey Shorts, and many more! These are some of the top paid games at present and guess what? All of 'em are iOS exclusive.

Well, I'm not saying that iOS doesn't have an edge on Android, I'm saying that things are changing, as the market share of Android tablets is rising and catching up. Temple Run, you say? That's true for TR1, but TR2 for Android has been released just 10 days after the iOS version. Btw, Punch Quest is not exclusive anymore... it has just been released for Android! ;-)

Actually...

"There has also been some discussion as to how we will be handling making the Android version free for the first 24 hours. This will be dealt with in the following way (resulting in 3 versions of the App being available):

Carmageddon PROMO – The FULL game for FREE (only available May 10th for 24hrs)
Carmageddon – Full game
Carmageddon FREE – Demo version of the game

After the first 24 hours of its release, the PROMO version of the game will be removed from Google Play and will no longer be available. Subsequently, the PROMO version will be unsupported because we have no way to update the title once it's taken down.

This isn't how we would have wanted to do this but it's the only choice. It's not possible to change an app from free to paid on Google Play. So, in the unlikely event that players experience problems with the PROMO version, the solution will be to either download the FREE (demo version) version, or "upgrade" to the FULL paid version. This will only cost you £1.49 and for that, you'll be getting the full benefit of support and updates for the lifetime of the game."

Should've been left in the past.
There are hundreds of games on Android that are actually worth a download.
This atrocious relic isn't one of them

I loved Carmagedon when I was a kid back in the day... Can't wait to try it out on my phone.

How many of you guys played the original? PC is way ahead of iOS and Android in games, by like 14 years! Don't get butthurt all you phone "gamers" out there, I'm joking. But, seriously.
