Sony is expected to unveil its 2014 flagship Android handset next month at MWC. Samsung's Galaxy S5 might not be announced until April. Does Sony have a shot at stealing some of S5's potential customers?

I don't think that Sony will announce a new FlagShip Smartphone at MWC this February. Their Z1 was launched only this Sept. It already has latest Snapdragon 800 with 4G radios and everything needed for 1H14 sales. My bet is they will wait for next Gen Snapdragon 805, and new 4K Video capable micro-cams expected this summer, to come out with a new flagship adding 4K Video capture in July or Sept, that was the only thing missing in current Z1, for multuple reasons. I don't expect them to freeze their 1H14 Smartphone market in Feb by announcing then a new model only available during the summer, nor do just a cosmetic up-grade to thier Z1 available earlier in 1H14.
Instead I would expect SONY to announce a new Xperia Z1 Tablet at MWC in Feb, as thier Xperia Z Tablet so far is "left behind", as it never got up-dated to Z1 specs yet. And while I was a supporter of WiFi only tablets before, now with 4G you see more and more 4G Contracts including one SIM for Voice+Data for the Smartphone, plus other SIMs Data-only sharing the same up to 20GB fair-use on unlimited 4G packages, pushing for new Tablets with WiFi + 3G/4G Data capability, instead of WiFi-only. Plus they could take that chance add an external optional hard Keyboard missing on their current tablet, and ideally they could increase the screen resolution to best-in-class 4K video resolution (Please not the interim "quad-nothing" !).
I need to buy a tablet like this before June, so MWC would be a perfect timing for me...

Sony needs to do three main things:
1.) Better battery life
2.) Rid of the exclusive T-Mobile (though some old Sony phones were on AT&T before)
3.) Faster updates with improved UI

If it is QHD with good color reproduction, has the SD 805 or that new Tegra, and is waterproof, I would buy it in a heartbeat.
