CMI to show Full HD 5" and 9.7" screens at IFA, we eagerly await them in phones and tablets

The 5-incher is to sport the mouthwatering 440ppi pixel density, as it sports 1920x1080 pixels of resolution, whereas the 9.7" panel has 330ppi density, again achieved with Full HD resolution. As a reminder, the new iPad with its "Resolutionary" screen has 256ppi, so this CMI screen is even more "resolute"...

That's beautiful and stuff, but... Why do we need 440 ppi at sacrifice of battery life and performance...?

Most modern chipsets can actually support resolutions well above 1080p, thus the reason the new iPad is able to use a graphics chipset that has been out for about 2 years now. So, with the new S4 chipsets as well as Tegra 3 and the Exynos 5 series, 1080p should not be that big of a strain. As far as battery life is concerned, considering the new Galaxy Note II has a 3100 mAh battery (which is considerably bigger than the 2,500 mAh battery on the previous Note), I wouldn't think battery life would be that big of an issue. Actually, increasing the resolution of a screen has a minor effect on battery life. It would moreso be affected depending on the strain on the chipset, which as I just said shouldn't be a problem for modern chipsets.

Dear Phil, for full HD screens so called AR (opening where light can transmit through RGB pixel) reduces significantly. Meaning, at same display brightness more power though LED (of backlight) is needed (or more LED's). This has significant effect on power consumption and thus battery lifetime. This kind of screen needs 10-12 LED's, 20-25mA per LED (3.3V per LED).

That would heavily backfire as Apple was the first to roll out 326 ppi on a smartphone (iPhone 4) and 264 ppi (new iPad) on a tablet.

If the 9.7" has Full HD resolution(1920x1080) then shouldn't the pixel density be lower than the iPad 3? it should be around 227 and not 330, right?

The way PA wrote the sentence sounds misleading. The source sentence says: "And that's not the only hot prototype to be demoed the event. A 330ppi 9.7-inch screen, which will allow tablets to join the Retina family, is expected to be unveiled as well." The way it sounds, according to the source, is that there is a 330ppi 9.7 inch screen that is going to be unveiled with a resolution that we are unsure of yet.
