By 2016, tablets will overtake notebooks, iOS will still dominate

0. phoneArena posted on 07 May 2012, 09:49

The rise of the tablet market might have slowed down quite a bit in the year's first quarter, but in the long run, tablet adoption is expected to rise substantially. In fact, the number of tablets shipped will exceed that of shipped notebooks in no more than a few years, according to NPD DisplaySearch...

These long tern projections are almost always wrong.

I know. Wasn't the Tablet suppose to have replaced the notebook already and be challenging laptops, according to 2010 projections?

Waiting for these firms to start putting out their accuracy ratings. Got a feeling I will be waiting a while....

Who Knows, Some New OS might Launch like how Android emerged and it might be better than iOS and Android. Its very though to predict future,

thats the worst projection ever. Where do they get the stats? Windows 8 would have to be a total fail to take such a small portion of the market. Apple would have to start making a tablet that can actually do something to keep up with W8 and even ICS.

The projection starts off wrong anyways. Apple just got a little boost in Q1 2012 on tablets, which put it back into the 60%'s... otherwise it would have been over taken this last quarter by android. When ICS tablets become the norm, I bet money we see a shift back away from iOS. honeycomb tablets havent been up to snuff, but ICS very much is.

I dont think there will be a "dominant" tablet in a few years. If WP8 catches on at all, it will split it into everyone having 20-39% of the market (ios, android, windows)

Apple has acknowledged they are "weak" in the enterprise. Apple knows Windows tablets are "soon".

Apple has always had a "my way or no way" type attitude, but with Windows tablets on the way, Apple may have to bow down some.

Until Windows tablets actually start appearing though, Apple can sit with their current attitude and get away with it. Not for much longer though.

It will be interesting to see what Apple does.

I would hate to see the world run on iOS tablets. Imagine there are no more notebooks, only desktops and iPads.

Scenario 1

Guy 1 : Hey, let me send this 720P video recording of last night's concert.

Guy 2 : OK :D

iPad : Attachment is too huge, trim video?

Guy 1 : Ok, I'll either send it to you in 20 different parts or I go home, export from iTunes, put it in a thumbdrive and pass it to you so you can go home and import it to your iTunes and iPad.

Scenario 2

Guy 1 : Hmm, I'm on the bus and I wanna download this song from mediafire to listen to it on the go!

iPad : Sorry bro, Safari can't load this.

Why can't people see tablets, especially iGiantPod, I mean iPad just make simple task a hell lot harder? The only good thing I can think of for a tablet is the ease of access to notes/PDFs (and on the iPad you can't even edit it.), web browsing and I mean simple sites that idiot teens go to like Facebook and twitter, anything more and it's just horrible (even worst on an iPad since it can't display flash and some content properly) and watching videos (which importing them to an iPad is also inconvenient and a pain in the butt).

With the rebirth of Tizen, a web based OS built up by Linux and has great HTML5 support, I think we may see this OS seep up through the Android and iOS cracks in the future and onto tablets, for a few reasons. 1. web based OS's don't need supercharged hardware to run smoothly and 2. web based OS's don't consume nearly as much power as nonweb based for the fact they don't have the power drain from the high-end hardware. Just my opinion.

Lol serious i never believe this !!!
Windows 8 for ARM is going to dominate all over the Ipad, you shall see !

One love for Microsoft with both Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 Apollo.
