Well, that's cool. The Bionic marches closer to launch.

And yet, it'll get creamed by the far superior iPhone 5(or 4S).
41. YidiotsY (unregistered) posted on 24 Jul 2011, 20:30 2 0
which will also be creamed by the sgs2 in every way possible!

The iphone 5 superior? Hmm, I guess if you call the ever-so-ungraceful ripping off from Android's notification panel superior, then yeah, probably many simpletons would agree with the_miz on that one. For us with brains and creativity, the Bionic wins.

Unfortunately, that's not the new Bionic, that's the old model, the Etna. The new one has much less curved corners, plus a silver layer on the bottom.
4. Thump3rDX17 posted on 23 Jul 2011, 22:18 0 0
i noticed the same thing. maybe Verizon is trying to salvage as much as they can of the promotional material for the Etna being that none of these accessories have likely not made any changes during the redesign of the Bionic.
20. snowgator posted on 24 Jul 2011, 01:03 0 0
I really like the look of the Etna better. That is a sharp looking unit.

I wonder whats better the bionic or function. bionic has qhd but it has 1ghz dual core instead of 1.2 on the function and for now it has android 2.2 and 720p video
5. Thump3rDX17 posted on 23 Jul 2011, 22:20 0 0
the only 2 things the Bionic will have of real benefit over the Function is it's LTE and Webtop capabilities and the Bionic will run Android 2.3.4 and will be able to do 1080p video capture.

oh what :( i thought that the SGS II (function) would have LTE...has there been any real definitive word on the matter?
14. Thump3rDX17 posted on 23 Jul 2011, 23:53 1 0
no definitive word but it's likely it won't have it because of the size of these first generation LTE radios, they're just too big, it would compromise the design too much.
34. RORYREVOLUTION posted on 24 Jul 2011, 06:26 1 0
I doubt that they want to risk any further delays and problems on the SGS2. LTE does not play nice with gingerbread nor does it play nice with dual core processors. LTE is still a very very new technology and it needs time to fix them. 3G is still very acceptable and LTE is not nearly marketed in enough locations for this to be considered as a "deal breaker".
Besides LTE phones are priced much higher. This will hopefully mean a respectable price tag on the phone. You can get a Droid 3 which has a large 4 inch display with an amazing slide out keyboard with a dual core processor and android 2.3 for 450 full retail. While the Droid Charge and Thunderbolt are both nearly 600 dollars full retail.
6. Sniggly posted on 23 Jul 2011, 22:21 2 0
Um...as far as I know, the Bionic is launching with Gingerbread aboard. And if it isn't, it'll get Gingerbread very shortly after launch like the X did.
Also, the Atrix Gingerbread update proved that 1080p recording can be added with correct software.
And the Bionic has a way f**king cooler name. I mean, come on, the FUNCTION? That's a name you give to a cheaptastic feature phone, not a sexy sleek smartphone of the future. "Okay, what's this phone's defining characteristic?" "Um, it functions?" "That's IT! We'll call it the Function!"

i dont go by the name of a phone to decide which phone i would want
18. Thump3rDX17 posted on 24 Jul 2011, 00:27 0 0
the Droid branding does make a difference. i'll make it simple. Verizon puts a lot of money into marketing Droids so more people want them, the more people want them the more they sell and when they sell more they're more likely to get Android updates more promptly because more people have em. get it?
21. RORYREVOLUTION posted on 24 Jul 2011, 01:03 1 1
It really annoys me when people think all android phones are "Droids". My own brother is an idiot and told me a while ago that he got a Droid. I asked him when he switched to Verizon and he's like "it's the Samsung one from boost mobile" I knew which phone he was talking about. But the only DROID's are the ones that Verizon has. Verizon has a deal with Lucas to use their trademark. I give my hat to Sprint for making the "EVO" name for their phones.
24. Thump3rDX17 posted on 24 Jul 2011, 01:18 1 0
yeah, i've even encountered people with some phone knowledge here that insists all of Verizon's Android phones are "Droids" because they're Verizon Android phones. it's pretty annoying.
25. RORYREVOLUTION posted on 24 Jul 2011, 01:50 1 0
I wish they would make "DROID" phones all stock android devices. I still long to see a dual core stock gingerbread cell phone on Verizon Wireless. I mean even single core 1GHz on Stock android is a smooth experience. Same thing what T-M does with their G2 series.
26. Thump3rDX17 posted on 24 Jul 2011, 02:14 1 0
i would love to see a G2x on Verizon with LTE instead of HSPA+ i'd fall in love.
27. RORYREVOLUTION posted on 24 Jul 2011, 02:20 1 0
3G or LTE, either way works for me.
That's why so many people root their phones is because they hate the custom UIs on it like Motoblur, Sense, and Touchwiz. They want the stock experience and I wish there was more high end stock phones then just the Nexus S.
28. Thump3rDX17 posted on 24 Jul 2011, 02:42 1 0
i don't really hate Blur or TW (as of version 4) but i can't really say the same about Sense, my aesthetic tastes change often and HTC just has that same...glitzy look throughout most of their phones and it clashes with design elements from things i download but Blur and now TW has a neutral look that looks fine with whatever design elements it coincides with. the only reason i'd like stock is to optimize efficiency since i just slap GO Launcher EX over the interfaces anyway. if you check out this site:http://mycolorscreen.com/ it'll make sense to you.
29. RORYREVOLUTION posted on 24 Jul 2011, 02:49 2 0
Yea thats what I do too. I mean I can't wait for high end phones to be as fast and smooth as the SGS2. I don't know if it's just the 1.2Ghz processor the SGS2 has or maybe a combo of an optimized version of touchwiz. You really arent getting the "dual core" feel on phones like the Sensation and EVO 3D because of how much RAM and processor power the new Sense needs to use. I'm not saying its a "laggy piece of crap" like some trolls do, I'm just saying that it doesnt feel like a true dual core processor.
I don't hate custom UIs because they all do have their benefits and nice features. What I am hoping with Ice Cream that it's a lot like Honeycomb is on the tablets. Where they are all running the same Honeycomb UI but they have small little added features that dont harm or restrict it
30. Thump3rDX17 posted on 24 Jul 2011, 03:04 1 0
yeah, i can't wait to actually feel a GSII and i definitely agree with you on the MSM8660 powered EVO 3D and Sensation, i was completely underwhelmed after expecting a dual-core experience. i don't see why people are so blindly attached to those phones. i guess Sense made a lasting impression on them from back when it wasn't as extensively integrated as it is now. the Droid 3 and G2x are fine, i walk away impressed after using them but they're still barely a step behind what i'm seeing on the GSII and it's flawless behavior.
mmhmm, it should be just like that, stock Android out of the box with manufacturer added widgets and apps and then they could go as far as adding their overlays to the market and restricting it by makes and models if they wanted. that would solve a lot of Android's fragmentation problems.
31. RORYREVOLUTION posted on 24 Jul 2011, 03:18 1 0
I am hoping with ice cream it's all stocked experience but they add their own custom widgets and other minor experiences. That way its the best of both worlds.
Off topic, do you ever play xbox 360? I can't wait to get games of that nature on cell phones.
32. Thump3rDX17 posted on 24 Jul 2011, 03:34 1 0
oh yes, i play my 360 on a regular basis and if the Playstation Vita is any indication we might get that degree of gaming mobile by next year with the Tegra III.
if any super spec'd quad core powered WP7 phones comes to market with more extensive Xbox LIVE integration, Adobe Flash and better support and initiative for third party applications i'll likely switch to one of them. the interface is smooth and minimalistic and the apps they do offer are the ones i use most on my Android phone anyway plus they have nice presentation with the Metro UI and that on screen keyboard is pretty perfect.
33. RORYREVOLUTION posted on 24 Jul 2011, 03:47 1 0
Feel free to add me to xbox, my gamertag is my user name on here.
Yes I am getting the Playstation Vita for sure. Only 250 for the wifi version and 300 for the 3G model. Having a high resolution 5 inch display with an HDMI port and thankfully two joysticks.
The games also look amazing on it, very impressed and it has a reasonable price tag. Which IMO the 3DS is an overpriced piece of crap. Yes I own one but I only play Zelda on it lol
35. biophone posted on 24 Jul 2011, 10:19 0 0
Really you have androids and xbox 360 we can't agree on anything. I have iOS and ps3. Its ok though i do have a 360 as well i just don't like it. Also i have had android devices before but got old when it didn't last a day with battery life and was all laggy but i did like it.
37. Thump3rDX17 posted on 24 Jul 2011, 13:38 0 0
i understand your feelings but i assure you the current gen Android devices are VERY much improved.
36. Thump3rDX17 posted on 24 Jul 2011, 13:37 0 0
i'll do that. (:
i'm definitely impressed with the Vita but i haven't decided if i really want one or not yet.
the 3DS is pretty crap. stereoscopic screens don't make for a seamless 3D experience as they are now.
19. snowgator posted on 24 Jul 2011, 00:57 0 0
Humor. It was meant as funny.
And Bionic is a cooler name. Just sayin.
8. RORYREVOLUTION posted on 23 Jul 2011, 23:08 0 0
Haha I know what you mean. Hopefully those are just code names like the DROID x was the Motorola DROID shadow. Either way it doesn't matter what they don't it. If it has the same specs as the sgs2 that's all that matters to me.
9. Sniggly posted on 23 Jul 2011, 23:17 0 0
Well, even the Shadow is an awesome name. See, Motorola KNOWS how to codename their devices. Like the Terminator or T2.
10. RORYREVOLUTION posted on 23 Jul 2011, 23:30 0 0
With the SGS2, they could just take the back cover off and put a new one on that says "Verizon, Sprint, At&t" and I wouldn't care what they called it. As long as it is in the end the SGS2 specs wise, that's good enough for me. Yes I know, there's a difference between CDMA and GSM, yada yada yada lol before anyone says it. You get my point!
13. nohomoin (unregistered) posted on 23 Jul 2011, 23:51 0 0
but isnt the function a verizon branded gs2
15. nohomoin (unregistered) posted on 23 Jul 2011, 23:56 0 0
i wish verizon phones came with sim cards or was cdma thats one reason i never like verizon
16. Thump3rDX17 posted on 24 Jul 2011, 00:01 1 0
the 4G phones use SIM cards but they're paired to the phones.
17. RORYREVOLUTION posted on 24 Jul 2011, 00:11 1 0
LTE phones like the Thunderbolt, Droid Charge, LG Revolution, and up coming Droid Bionic will all have LTE sim cards.
There are also 3G phones like the HTC Incredible 2 and Droid 3 that have GSM world sim cards.
I would suggest you do a little bit of research before you say something like that because you could get some unfriendly responses.
22. Hey, Look At That. (unregistered) posted on 24 Jul 2011, 01:07 0 0
There is some red between the capacitive buttons! Android Central needs to move their water mark up and repost the picture. Either the screen extends down to include the button area or that is some serious bleedover in the grainy picture. If the former, then the screen may be larger than 4.3". The final model may be a third version that we have not seen yet. The high res renders from Amazon though are a very nice design.
39. The_Miz posted on 24 Jul 2011, 19:37 0 1
Another typical Droid phone that will have Verizon's cream of bloatware all over it. I'd rather wait for the iPhone 5, at least it'll have a more stable OS behind it and far better support and plenty of quality, nonpermission requiring apps.
40. YidiotsY (unregistered) posted on 24 Jul 2011, 20:28 1 0
Oh man I really don't care for this phone y don't the carriers hurry up and bring the gs2 out. Better yet y not upgrade the gs2 to 1.4ghz + nfc and bring it out before this crappy phone.
