According to Bloomberg there will indeed be an Amazon phone, and it's being manufactured at Foxconn, the same place as the iPhone and innumerable other tech gadgets...

No thank you. If its anything like the Kindle Fire it will kinda suck. I have many friends with them and the kindles are glitch, slow, and have a horrible UI in my opinion.

Amazon can compete well with its eco system it only makes sense to have a smartphone out. I am invested in Android but i always keep an open mind to other platforms unless its Apple!

This story explains Amazon's interest in RIM. I suspect Amazon passed on RIM because RIM was asking too much for their company.

I don't think RIM will be able to call the shots that much longer. Amazon might be able to actually get BB10 out the door.

i think too much! amazon wanted to fight in the entry level! thats why they make kindle fire... im guessing dual core TI chips or maybe snapdragon chips... if they want it to be lower they might use the new MediaTek dual core chips! but its just my guess... but i hope they could bring 4.3" with 720p display though!

i really think if amazon buying RIM is a good move and will save the company... i might see some thumbs down on this post but its just my opinion!

if they bought RIM and make an amazon blackberry phones that would be epic... everybody knows that it terms of social networking and messaging, blackberry is the best! and if amazon will port its ecosystem to BB and now the competition between Apple's iProducts, Google's Androids, and Microsoft Windows Products will be going to be epic! its gonna be a head to head competition....

You must be kidding with your statement that "people will buy a BB because of social life!" I haven't seen any article discussing how people are buying BBs because their social life is contingent on the BB. If you have seen such an article, perhaps you could share a link to the article? I think networkdood is on point with his comment that Blackberry's time has passed.

RIM still has it's strengths, unfortunately they are not outweighing their weaknesses. Their current CEO has been with the company a long time, and is just staying the course. BBM is still great, but all OS's and some manufacturers can compete with that now. Microsoft is going for serious security in their WP8 devices, and Apple is already there. Google has had several really well received "Pro" devices.

That is what they mean when they say their time has passed. RIM is behind on OS appeal and functionality, app development, hardware, cloud services, device options and general original ideas. I loved my Curve in it's day. makes me sad to type this.

When you say that Amazon "will make its own phone" and then say "Foxconn will be manufacturing it", it seems like a contradiction. I guess I'm just ignorant, but what does "make its own phone" actually mean if they're going to get someone else to actually make it for them??

Just like iApple doesn't technically 'make' the iPhone, Amazon isn't going to make its own phone. But the Amazon phone will wear the Amazon trademark and be sold as an Amazon product.

Still not sure what Amazon can offer the Mobile Phone community. The Kindle Fire was a natural extension of the E-readers and it made sense. Smart phones are a whole different animal. Just ask HP.

If BB10 can accept Android apps. It sounds like a perfect formula for Amazon to have a unique OS of their own and still keep their foot in the Android universe.
