Even if it WERE true. This question would also be giving the iPhone positive remarks during a mothercrackin Blackberry Interview...

For GODS sake. Not everyone compares themselves to Apple or the iPhone. Its a different product for the Sake. Damn!!!

At the beginning of the interview, I was miffed that he couldn't answer the questions about the iPhone. However, towards the middle, I began to realize the brilliance of dancing around the question. Towards the end of the interview, it was clear that the interviewer wasn't interested in Blackberry 10 but was more interested in comparing it to the iPhone. Nothing like trying to bring a touch of "sour" to such a sweet event for the Canadian manufacturer. I hope the hire-ups continue this trend of ignoring the iPhone because it simply makes the interviewers look foolish. What's wrong with wanting to enter the market on your own terms? Oh...you can't be Blackberry 10 unless you list all the things you learned from IOS 5 and 6. Since, you know, everyone is just copying off each other...

The unfortunate thing for Rim/Blackberry is that it's playing a game of too little too late in the minds of consumers. I am not saying that is the actual case but as far as the consumer market goes it appears that faith has been lost in Rim/Blackberry as a whole. If you go back to 2009 you can see another company that went through similar trials and did a complete overhaul of the Os called Web Os. Palm announced at CES in January 2009 their new hero device along with their savior operating system. It was reviewed rather well and took home awards that year. Things were looking great for a while with the exclusivity they had with Sprint and the innovation behind the Os, until things went south of course. Sprint also had another big announcement months later with the HTC Evo and that was just the beginning of the downfall for Palm. Os issues with update after update, outdated hardware with the release of newer better devices around every corner and of course the eventual sell out to a company that made an impossible promise, Hp. Rim in many ways appears to be going in the same direction here and it's been said that other companies have been looking at an eventual buyout. Speculation and rumor of course, but in a market where bigger is better and everyone is looking for the next best thing, well it's kind of hard to look the other way when history is seemingly repeating.

Why would they even ask this question to a competitor? Would you ask Microsoft what they have learned from Android, what Chevy leanred from the Mustang, or what Mike Tyson learned from Evander Holyfield? Probably not because that would be an insult to all the hard work and progress those companies and people have put in to perfect their product. They should have to pay homage to any other OEM when the interview is about Blackberry and THEIR new products.

What our hapless BlackBerry executive has just ATTEMPTED to say is that BlackBerry 10 offers a "new" unique user experience... in other words, this was an attempt to say that BlackBerry 10 is intended to do what iOS did in 2007, and to kick the iPhone out of the way; however, he said it very poorly. Yes, I believe his intent was to say it without mentioning the iPhone at all, since the iPhone is, in his mind, the "old" unique user experience. BlackBerry has learned, from the iPhone, that 'unique' can be a game-changer for user experiences, and their hope is that the newest 'unique' will always be the winner at any given moment. Unfortunately, the executive failed to express this view, without mention of the iPhone, in a polished and professional sounding way.

Either a) people will think that BlackBerry is sticking their heads under the sand in the face of Apple's competition, or b) people will see that this executive should have practiced harder on how to answer this question more fluently and without figuratively staggering around like a couple of other RIM executives (drunken on an airplane) that they've heard embarrassing stories about.

I agree that this journalist needs to keep his questions relevant to the OEM he is interviewing.
