A tablet is basically a way of saying "I have $500+ to blow, let me buy a bigger version of my phone, that has less functionality and less processing power than a laptop for the same price."

A tablet may be nice in the right circumstances, but they're too expensive for what they're worth.

You have no idea what you are talking about. Show me a laptop that came work like my iphone and run the apps. I cant wait to get an ipad 2.

Now for the tab n playbook yeah who cares. The tablet is no better than the shit phones with those OSs.

1) You sir are an obvious fanboy

2) Show me an iPhone that can download games from Steam, while downloading torrents, while you play Flash games on adultswim.com, while playing you're own music in the background, while you talk to your friends on AIM, while vide chat to your friends over Skype, while browsing Wikipedia, while surfing the internet as you wait for the World of Warcraft dungeon queue to put you in a dungeon. Can your iPhone do that... at the same time? I don't think so.

You want me to show you a laptop better than your iphone? Okay here's two:

http://www.dell.com/us/p/alienware-m15x/pd?refid=alienware-m15x&~ck=mn

I'm not even going to show you the MacBook Pros, and you want to know why? The two computers I just posted, are cheaper and more powerful than a MacBook Pro will ever be.

3) If by apps you mean games. Games for mobile phones are still a joke no matter how popular the game is when you compare it to a console, handheld or PC. I'll give you an example, I'll take the most popular games for iOS and the Nintendo DS. Angry Birds vs Pokemon. Obviously people are going to choose Pokemon over Angry Birds. Pokemon too kiddie for you? Okay, Angry Birds vs. New Super Mario Bros. Nintendo wins again.

Know your place fanboy.

Totally agree with you. There's an HP tablet that runs Windows 7, but for the price, you might as well get a laptop. Not many people have realized that a tablet is just bigger version of their phone. The purpose of a tablet is to give the the functionalty of a laptop, condense is further to make it even more portable while not losing the functionality of the laptop. And running a mobile OS like iOS, Android, Blackberry, whatever, takes that functionality away as these tablet makers are just making a device that surfs the internet.

Agreed no tablet will replace my laptop... YET!!! they are far more powerful... I think tablets might have their people who only need a few things, or just the basic one or two things at a time... and wont wanna take all on the smartphones...

eventually I'll get a tablet to do e-reading(for some reason i can e-read on any device but my laptop... its a me thing), playing board games with fiends and... I need another test subject(

Gotta say... I think most of you are missing the point about tablets in general. They're not even supposed to be computers. They're Internet appliances, more akin to using a microwave in terms of functionality, than using a computer. To put it in other terms, you guys sound like the geeks who touted all the superior virtues of DOS to Windows or MacOS. You're missing the point big time. No one is going to care about this stuff pretty soon. These devices are intended to be stupid simple. So in a sense, you're right about laptops being more powerful.... But the paradigm just shifted. Again... By Apple. Again.

We get the point of tablets, but it's stupid to pay $500+ for something that's main function is to browse the internet. Especially when people already have something that already does that function, like a laptop or smart phone.

Apple didn't shift the paradigm, Steve Jobs just got on stage, used his reality distortion field and said "You need this, you will buy it!" They haven;t made anything new, they just took an old concept and made their own version of it. The difference is, their device has a lot of polish then it's predecessors.

Hm a price hasn't been released yet and the only leaks I've read start at 399, where are people getting 500 from? And I'm interested to know if your comments are aimed at all tablets or the PlayBook? This has 2x the processing power and 4x the memory of the iPad, I can see tablets replacing laptops sometime in the near future (not yet).
