BlackBerry PlayBook Web Browsing Demonstration

0. phoneArena posted on 15 Apr 2011, 11:55

After quickly getting a feel for its shiny new QNX based platform, we just had to hone in on one key aspect of the BlackBerry PlayBook that’s surely going to be one driving force for anyone looking to pick one up – and that’s none other than the web browser...

I like how the hid the tabs so they don't take up screen space but are easily accessible via an icon or gesture however, they then give you a menu/title bar that takes up as much space as tabs would--I don't need to know what the title tag of the web page is, get ride of that dead space RIM.

Found out that the menu/browser title on the browser can be hidden via a setting, though I haven't seen it done yet.

Also, apparently RIM says they will have 3,000 apps available for the PlayBook at launch, and though there is NOT a native email client built in there are third party email clients--not sure but that's what one user stated.

One thing they really did right is the HDMI out. You can do HDMI mirroring and you can go into "presentation" mode where you can play a video out via HDMI to your HDTV and then use the PlayBook to do other things--Android & the iPad just do mirroring which is very annoying. The PlayBook has great multitasking. . . have to give them credit on that.
